Help With Routine

Postby boa05jb » May 26th, '08, 13:14

Hi, I open my routine with the Mercury trick but with a difference. I have a ghost and ghost gaff deck and so instead of turning aces to kings i turn kings into skull kings. The problem i am having however is an effective dump of the skull kings after the trick to lead into my next trick with the same deck i took the normal kings from? Does any one have any ideas of what would be an effective dump which would not draw attention? The following trick is the colour changing card (i.e white backed to black backed using ghosts and tigers) if that makes any difference to suggestions?

Cheers guys

Jason

By dump, do you mean get rid of the "Skull kings"? And if so, do you want to get rid of the kings in a magical way or just a sly way which nobody notices?

Sorry for misunderstanding :) Welcome

A dump, in general, is getting rid of the cards without people noticing Oscarno, but I know what you mean. There are plenty of ways to get rid of them without having to be too secretive.

If the Tiger Deck is in your pocket, you could quite simply drop them in as you take the other deck out?

I agree, except use the otherhand to misdirect with something prominet like introducing a marker or a new deck.

Yeah i like the idea of misdirecting at the same time, i could change my routine order and do the signed/torn/restored trick second so that i could introduce a marker for the card signing as the misdirect? Just as a quick thort what do you reckon to this routine order:

Mercury

Signed/Torn/Restored card

A four card trick where you show four aces, then four tens then finally change them into the four kings but you only have four cards, im not sure what is called? As I was taught it by another magician in exchange for one of my tricks.

A simple card predictor

Another gaff based trick where a spectator selects a card, it is burnt to ash, the ash is then blown away, the spectator is then told the card has reformed, thier is found, singed in their pocket

And finally a classic card on the other side of the window trick.

This is the routine i use at partys where a relativley short but very visual routine is best, any suggestions on what may improve it? Thanks guys

I'm not sure what your card prediction is, but as a mental feat, it sounds like it would stand out and be somewhat less believable than it could be next to the other effects you're doing.

Yeah i suspected that the prediction trick didnt sit quite right with the other tricks, it definaltey gets a lesser response compared to the others as its much less visually stunning. I do have a decent Ricky Jay-esque card manipulation (thou no where near as good as the master lol) where i use false cuts, shuffles and XCM's that looks good but is a bit long, i think i may end with a shotened version of that! :)
