I would have buzzed both magic acts off way before the judges did. There was absolutely no magic on show...just someone showing off their props...badly.
I'm sure many lay people would think their intelligence was being insulted by the indian guy. Why on earth would you need a base unit rolled onto stage just to place your 'empty' basket onto? And then he proceded to give the method away all by himself anyway.
I think the worst thing about the woman in basket one was that he had to move the basket around with considerable effort before commencing it was such a giveaway.
It would be more impessive to lay people if she were to disapear from a cardboard box that can be ripped up at the end. I may be a bit biased as I dont like stage illusions (and its not because im in the know, as I know no more about stage illusions now than before I got into magic properly). They just dont seem magical at all. Just a demonstration of clever props. I
And the other act seem like they have come from the readers wives section of magicseen. I dont think the plastic candles helped, and the blatently abvious production of a necklace, which most of the audience (without the help of a TV close-up) wouldn't have seen anyway. Compare them to Lance Burton producing candles in his stage show, and the difference in class becomes apparent. Surely there was better acts than this available, or have we got to witness animalwhatevertheirnameis produce a ferret from his trousers!
