Interesting use of CCTVs

Unsigned Manchester band The Get Out Clause and their innovative video made entirely from footage of them taken by CCTV cameras: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2iuZMEEs_A

Under UK law, you can request any footage taken of you on CCTV. What's really shocking is that only 25% of those served with such papers complied. Personally, I'd like to see the law applied with full force to the other 75%

It's true that you can request CCTV footage taken of you but the Law also states that a maximum £10 fee can be charged towards the admin - may be this was not forthcoming in which case they don't have to supply.

It's up to those who apply for footage to take the matter further with the data commissioner if they are not satisfied but there may be legitimate reasons why footage isn't supplied. They should at least get a letter explaining why.

I would challenge that the video is made up entirely of CCTV footage as some parts of it looks far too contrived and you would expect there to be more dropped frames within some of the footage and some of the cameras angles don't look right.

Have to agree that it's a pretty innovative promo though

Aye.

I can't for the life of me work out where the shots of a stand were taken. Somewhere in Castlefields? Manchester changes so much these days it's hard to know what's what any more.

My reactions in order:

1/ Wow, that's pretty neat. . .
2/ Holy hell, the brits have cameras frickin' everywhere!

Yup. They say that if you stand outside George Orwell's London flat, you're potentially being filmed by 32 CCTV cameras belonging to nearby shops, the council, etc. I dunno if it's true but it certainly feels true.

It's apparently a true fact that the United Kingdom has more CCTV cameras in total than the USA. And that's not a comparitive percentage taking into account the size difference, it's literal.

Cool video - shame it's such a dreary indie dirge :P
