Postby panther1004 » Jan 10th, '04, 21:34

I may be doing a magic show for kids at a party. I have all my modling balloons ready for making dogs etc but I need some actuall magic. I dont intend buying any, know any good effects from somewhere like rrtcm or other tricks that children like? suggestions please, and pm me the actual trick.

Thanks..

How old are the kids, cos if they are young I'm not sure cards would be the best choice.

the kids very from party to party, I dont yet know when the nextparty is but the range is about 6-10. I know what you mean about the cards, last night i found this lil magic book that has this trick where you show some animal cards and ask the children to make the noises (for young children) and then the cow goes missing, and you call out for it ("daisy") and you turn round still calling out and all the children see it on your back and call out but you pretend at first not to hear them.. but thats the only childrens trick i know..

Well the no tear birthday banner is certainly a very easy, visual and dramatic starter that should work on the kids in the age range you suggest.
Colouring book of course is a kids classic and does work well with the disappearing crayons.
When I suggested no card tricks I was of course refering to regular cards and the trick you suggested would of course work well for younger kids.
I'd say a change bag is also pretty much a kids essential.
I'm not familiar with the electrick deck, but also agree with cut and restored rope and ali bongo hat.
Basically any tricks that you can do that involve disappearing and reappearing stuff, esp bright coloured visual stuff like sponge rabbitts etc. Also colour changing tricks can be good.

Maybe magicdiscoman might want to add his thoughts but hopefully that will have given you some food for thought.

yes certainly. but the no tear kidz and ali bongo are both fairly expensive.. so im spoilt for choise on that one. Im acutally going to do the party with a dj friend, he does a disco and i do magic and entertaining (balloons etc)

Ah a change bag! DEFINATLY! So useful, ive always wanted one!

Your best bet to put together a kids show is to go to magic auctions, i bought my whole kids act from auctions.

Things i use in my kids show are:
Pnumatic wand
Skatty Skittles
T+R kids banner
unequally equal magic wands
wozzle the wizzard
Run Rabbit Run

Thats what i use in my act, they are all really good for kids

yea alot of those things are EXPENSIVE, i have a lower budget. I will get a change bag (should i get repeat or not?) and maybe a kidz banner thing OR a growing hat? which in your opinion?

Iv'e not used the hat but I do have a kidz banner and I must admit I really like it. You can spend some time on the build up, talking abou for example how you tried to make a special banner but only had these small bits of paper, then as you go through the letters you can use them as the basis for a few gags and finally finish by stating it's lucky you know magic as you think it's gonna be the only way to finish this banner off and WAm it's all done in front of them in 1 second flat.
Maybe someone can tell us more about the Hat.
By the way the banner is also very easy to do, which means very little chance of a mistake, very important esp. for the opener, if that's what it's used for. Only thing you mustn't do, is flick it open with too much strength, it only needs a little flick.

all the things on my list are expensive, when bought new. Every single one of them was bought at anauction, on average i paid £3 per trick, so 5 x 3 =£15, you would make twice that at least in your first performance.

I've been reading this topic and might put together a kids show... I've already got a magic colouring book, so am a little bit of the way already. Thanks. How about doing the colour changing silks and drum-head appearance tubes. You can make those yourself...
