Hello to you all.
My name is John. At 32 years old I'm new to magic. I picked up RRTCM in January 2007 with the view to performing to the family on christmas day Dec 07. A real lesson in what performing is about (I guess). I knew the tricks like the back of my hands and had the presentation down (which you'd expect after nearly 12 months of focused everyday practise). However, on a couple of occassions things went wrong...like showing a series of cards.....asking the spectator not to show any sign if it is there card (trick with the glide) and they go....."yeah that's mine" half way through the trick.....STUMPED! Also 4 spectators pick a random card each....as do I....highest card wins £10!.....Ace of hearts, Ace of diamonds, Ace of Clubs.....and I get 3 of diamonds...doh! Missed the break by one card. Anyhow....it brought home a added level of skill....dealing with the unexpected which you don't get from the mirror. Things did improve and I pulled off a decent Triumph effect with a nice story which went down well and ACR ending with Jay Sankey's Paperclipped (which I love) and blew them away.
Needless to say magic is a hobby for me. I love studying it in my own time. I intend to perform to friends and then who knows but I always feel I'm not quite there yet!!!
Favourite magicians include Jay Sankey, Paul Harris, R Paul Wilson, Derren Brown.
I've been focusing on cards mainly and I have started spending time on coins and household objects.
I've joined the forum to hopefully learn, improve and ultimately push myself to entertain people with a hobby I love.
Thanks.
