Multiple selection revelations.

Postby Marvo Marky » Jul 3rd, '08, 15:29

I am ashamed to admit that until very recently I did not have a 'multiple card selection' routine to my name.
I found it very easy to make one however, since all I had to do (in essence) was string together a few of my favourite reveals.
It's also inspired me to learn some new ones, so I'm going to dig out Darrel's Revelations.

Anyways, just out of curiosity, what does everyone else do with their multiple card selection routines?

Do you have a set routine or do you improvise, changing the revelations according to your whims and fancies?

I have settled on four and made them as different as possible. I include a 'card sharp' revelation, a visual one, a silly one and then a 'card to' for lasts.
I love mutliple selections now and just for fun I think I'm going to put together a full routine for each of those categories.

There's a cool one in "22 Blows to the Head" where Jay Sankey has someone look at a card and someone else take a card. He then puts the cards behind his back and names out a bunch of cards that are popping up. Afterwards, he names the card someone picked, and then names the one that Spectator number 1 merely looked at. This is all with really nice patter and everything, and it's a good effect. Might wanna check that out.

I usually just improvise, I never really know what I'm going to do next,
but I always finish with a deck vanish, so I end up with the selections.

Dependant on the number of selection, I tend to have a set way of revealing them, because I like each revelation to be more spectacular than the previous (as do most if not all of you I suppose :D ). However, if I suddenly think up a revelation that fits, then I'll probably do it instead of the one I was planning.

Nothing wrong with a little spontinaeity (so long as it fits that is :D )

I like the one in selfworking mental effects just because it's five revelations which is fun.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I just go for variety and ad-libbing. Make them different, which is why i dislike doing a Benzais three times in a row.

Ricky Jay has a video on YouTube with multiple selections and revelations.
