Magic Jobs!!!!!

Postby Chris » Jul 10th, '08, 12:21

Hi folks, all you Magicians that are pros or looking to make that step but cant find the work...look no further........I have just recently joined this fab new site, it helps you find bookings in your local area, from everything from Street Dancers, Jugglers, Magicians and Loads of other stuffff.....

Its realy informative and you can set your own rates....Plus its free!!!

Hi Chris,

On Juggletime a customer recently created a "Wanted Ad" and is looking to hire Magicians for their event.

Juggletime is a new free site. The idea being that customers create a ‘Wanted Ad’, e.g. "I need a Magician for a Party" and Magicians with a profile are sent the details. It's then up to you to make the customer an offer. Your offer will include contact details so customers can freely contact you directly.

See below for details of the ‘Wanted Ad’:

If you can't help but you know someone who might be able to, please let them know.

All the Best,

James,

Yeah, I got that one this morning too. Haven't come acroos it before & haven't had chance for a really good look at it but it seems pretty good. They'll be magicians galore on there by next week ;-)

I'm a full time pro and decided to give it a go, and since I've joined, I've had lots of email enquiries from Juggletime, but none of them will ever come off as they ask you to put in bids for the jobs.

Basically, the cheapest wins! ...that's not the way I work, or believe any magician should work.

So I consider the site worthless and don't even bother putting in bids anymore.

Hi,

I've been watching this post with some interest and (with the permission of the moderators) decided to reply.

Chris - thanks for the original post

Dave - Your comments are interesting and this is a view I've heard once before so I wanted to ask... If you were hiring a professional plumber/builder, you'd ask for offers first and I guess you'd be surprised if that offer didn't include a price. You'd look at the offers you could afford and then do a little research into the offer to make sure the person making it wasn’t dodgy. Then you'd accept the best offer to suit your needs. My question is how is the process of hiring Magicians (or caricaturists/face painters etc) any different?

On juggletime we spent months researching what Customer were looking for when hiring entertainers and whilst price was high on the list, reputation was their biggest consideration. That's why we created juggletime so that customers could create a wanted ad, receive offers and consider the feedback all in one place.

I guess I'm here to put my neck on the line a little and ask what other magicians think of the theory behind the site and (dare I say) constructively offer comments on how we can distinguish between professional magicians and those making a quick buck?

Be gentle, you seem like a friendly bunch and I'm just after your opinion on how we can possibly do things differently to help you.

Cheers, James

I really like the idea of the site. I can see what people mean about not liking to put in a quote but I don't see the problem. Ok all magicians are different and the better will tend to cost more but surely it's down to the client to compare and choose, that's what they'd probabaly do anyway. I assume that the client will get a contact number for the magician so they can get in touch with them and chat about their requirements.

sees like the only things you pay for is photos and web links which seems fair and reasonably priced, may sign up and see how things go.
