Most commonly asked questions?

Postby Carl Buck » Jul 18th, '08, 11:29

Ok so we all get asked the usual questions when we're performing, like 'how did you do that?' 'are they trick cards' and 'who are you, and what are you doing in my house', but apart from these what is the most common question you get asked?

For me, it seems to be 'can you do that one where you throw the deck at a window and one card sticks on the other side?'. It seems to be asked at least once at every gig! David Blaine has a lot to answer for!!

Another favourite seems to be 'do you know Paul Daniels?'!!

I'm fast realising that I prefer to do a set that single strolling effects, but when I do, or when I'm doing extra stuff afterwards I get a lot of:
    "Can you do another one?"

"Can you do it again for my friend?"

    "What am I thinking NOW?"

"Would you like to come to my party?"
But my favourite has to be:
    "Can I buy you a drink?" :D

I get this one all the time, which I reply

"Yes, but I wont be performing!"

The next person who says, "I wouldn't want to play cards with you!" is going to get a hard slap before they've finish the sentence. I realise it's not a question, but what the hell.

One I get a lot, especially when doing PK or mental stuff is "can anyone do that?"

"What number am I thinking of?".
To which I normally start waffling about something completely random whilst dropping suppositions about their feet being stuck to the floor.

I then either leave them to it, crying their bloodied tears, or slap them very hard in that really painful spot on the back of the thighs...

EDIT - Please note, the latter half of this is not true. I would never leave someone stuck to the floor. Or slap them unless they really deserved it

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I hate the "What am I thinking of right now?" questions. But once upon a time I got asked that and got it right.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I've NEVER had the 'what am I thinking of' question :? but I do get the 'can you do the card through window' quastion the same as Carlos

I also get asked ' how much do you charge' and 'how did you start learning magic' alot as well

Can you help me quit smoking? is fairly common too actually, and the much dreaded "Is hypnotism actually real then?".

Don't ask me! Ask the poor old chap who just GOT HYPNOTISED.
Yeesh...

But I suppose it comes with the territory - and I woudln't give it up for the world :D

A person asked me TWICE how i got into magic. TWICE!!!

As if the first time i explained it i didn't go into enough detail and he really wanted to find out if it's as magical as it sounds.

Sadly i didn't have a "wonderful magical experience" that got me into magic.

Can you make me disappear?

Do you do kids parties?

Are you in the Magic Circle?

I get that card through window one alot aswel.

And recently, sort of questionish..."Do you remember that guy who did stuff on TV then he would tell you how to do it after, maan I loved him"
obviously refering to 'The Masked Magician'
