Torn card to flames

Postby jwardmagic » Jul 19th, '08, 14:18

I'm looking to duplicate/replicate the effect Blaine does on 'frozen in time' to the New York Knicks where he tears a playing card in half and as he does it catches on fire. Some idea's on this effect from other message boards include a specialy made card made from magnesium, which I don't think is the way he did it. I've seen a video of Blaine using a TT flame in a nightclub on one of his other shows and was wondering, maybe he coated the card in something flammable and set it alight close up using a TT?

Anyway, if anyone knows the name of this effect or how to do it please help as im in the process of creating a new routine and it would end nicely with that effect!

Regards
JWard :D

Any ideas? I'm sure it is not a trick Blaine invented himself.

Would this be considered exposure?

Yup, so time to give a ridiculous explanation. Blaine had set up a mirror on one of the nearby buildings that at a particular time would reflect the sunlight through a magnifying glass creating a beam powerful enough to set the card on fire.

Blaine can not be credited with this masterpiece of magic. That honor lies with Archimedes.
