Haunted hanky or Glorpy

Postby Tom Lauten » Jul 21st, '08, 10:20

Anyone have any suggestions as to the best Haunted Hanky / Glorpy prop out there? Ideally one without tacky printing on it and of a normal size?

Hi Tom.
From looking at the video and reading reviews, Fabric manipulations haunted hank seems to be the thing you are looking for.

 DAMN! $52.00 for a device that cost less than $5.00 to make and about 10 minutes of your time!

I'm sorry but that thing best work on its own at that price.

Another that you may wish to consider, which is neither a Glorpy nor Haunted Hank, is Solid Ghost. Created by Osterlind and Sisti, I've heard good things about this one.

It is indeed a good thing...the Glorpy effect is related but very different. People should check out Solid Ghost.

Thanks!

The only problem with 'making your own' is the list I have of "Oh I'll make one of those..." is sooooooo extensive I have had to start a "I'll make one of those, lists" list.

Ive tried to make my own a number of times, and for some reason, i can never get it right.

The funny thing with this baby is, you would think its simple. yet, the weight of the fabric, the stiffneess of the gimick, and the shape of it, all make a big difference.

Its always the most simple of things that cause the biggest challenge. :)

It does seem to go like that doesn't it?

I suspect to get a fairly dramatic effect from the cloth the issues of weight, drag, leverage etc. all start becoming annoyingly complex.

I can imagine that a person could wish they just bought one and spent the day (or weekend at least) out of the other halfs "doghouse of magic widow-hood".

There are impromptu versions in Richardson's Act Two and Fulves's Self-Working Handkerchief Magic

This peaks my curiosity in that Kirkham did a similar bit 25 years ago and I believe he said he got it from Jay Oassey (sp) back in the 60s in around the same time the Castle was just opening its doors.

For the price however... that's a bit more reasonable for, in my opinion, a superior effect
