The time has come for me to stop browsing this forum and actually take the time to introduce myself (and perhaps post the things that I keep saying out loud!)
I'm a 32 year old accountant, living in Aberdeen but originally from Dundee, who has loved magic since I was a little kid. An abiding memory was being given a Paul Daniels marked deck when I was little, and then driving my parents and friends mad by doing tricks with them at every opportunity.
As I grew up, my interest in doing magic waned, but I always enjoyed watching it. Then Derren Brown hit the screens and his style of performances really drew me in. Then when I read that he had a video of card magic available, my childhood desire to perform with the pasteboards returned and I just had to buy it. Of course, Devil's Picturebook was (and still is!) way, way above my skill level, but it was the lure that brought me back.
So I'm now working my way through RRTCM, both book and R Paul Wilson's DVD set, and am delighted at the little miracles I can now perform. The only difference is the previous audience of friends and parents have been replaced by wife and kids.
Pressures of work mean that I don't get nearly as long as I would like to practice, but I'm getting there. My goal would be to have a nice array of close up tricks (primarily with cards) that can be my party piece when the opportunity arises.
That was a long blether, so for those that read it all, thanks, and I look forward to chatting with you all.
