Speaker Problem

Postby lindz » Jul 28th, '08, 09:42

Hi,
Was wondering if someone could help me out. My origanal speaker on my pc was built in to my screen and the speaker wire snapped, so instead of going out and buy a new wire for £3.99 I decided to go out and buy a sub and speaker set for £30, not much sense I know but it gave me a good excuse without the missuss questioning it  . Anyway to the problem I have plugged it all in and tested a music cd out on windows media player and played some games and the speakers work absolutely dandy but the problem is when I try to watch a video or do something online I get no sound so any help or advise would be much appreciated.
Watching a stand-up comic online with no sound just doesen't have the same vibe to it for some strange reason  .

Maybe you've already tried this, but have you gone to control panel, sounds and settings and made sure your computer has the new speakers set as the default? Also on the programme you are using eg realplayer etc check those settings too.

I'm no computer expert Lindz but I can tell you you don't have a speaker problem! If they work, they work. Sounds like some setting or other just needs changing - perhaps you haven't set everything to use the soundcard etc. to play stuff? Have you opened up the volume control panel, made sure nothing's muted and had a good fiddle!

There should be a sound tester facility on your computer somewhere, but otherwise you can just double check sound is coming through by changing the volume in the windows toolbar at the lower right hand side of the screen - it should make a muted "ding" noise when you do. Also, if you open the full volume control panel it should show the name of your sound device name in the bottom left hand corner.

Right just had a play to no avail but I'm even more confused than before now because the speaker test work's but the speakers are working in the wrong position e.g the sub is connected to the back speaker on the computer and the main speakers are working through the side speakers also When doing a test on realtek digital output I get nothing this is just confusing me like crazy I have tried to set the speakers in the right position but that's not working oh and also when I play a song through windows media player the singing is alot quiter than the music which is playing which isnt right but that's probably because the speakers are connected to the computers wrong speakers, I'm so confused right now thanks for your help anyway but I think it's not working because I'm completely useless at setting this up.

The singing is qiueter as you may need to adjust the equalizer settings. It usually is in the setup for the programme you are using.
As for which bit plugs in where, without looking i have no idea.
So my advice is to keep moving around till it sounds good.

Maybe someone else might know a bit more about it.

Lindz,

It sounds to me like you haven't a driver installed that can cope with the newly installed speakers.

What OS are you working on ?

What soundcard is installed ?

Is it built into the motherboard or seperate ?

What audio drivers are installed ?

Tenko.

Thanks Robbie ill take a look. Cheer's for that Mandrake   .
Sorry I haven't responded Tenko everytime I click on messages since last visit nothing had been coming up and I completely forgot about this thread until my speakers didn't work this morning and to answer your question's. I have no clue what OS is unless it concernes over spending  and the other three questions I sort of understand but wouldn't know how to source that information sorry a bit useless when it come's to computers these day's. When I have had a problem in the past I just fiddle for a few hour's and the problem seem's to go away without me knowing how the hell I did it.
