Blaine = Pain?

Postby Luker21 » Jan 18th, '04, 00:44

Im relatively new here and to the world of magic.
One thing i have really noticed in this forum is the large amount of 'anti-blaine' talk. i always thought he was a bit of a prat and the plastic box did justify that but i can see he is definately a very talented guy and i thought everyone, especially in here could see that, maybe im wrong. I personally started to dislike him after the gmtv interview thing when he just blanked the presenter being all 'mystical'. sure the guy is a prat and deserves a little verbal rinsing for that but doesnt everyone appreciate the guys skill and a lot of his act is very good.
what do you all think of him then, lets hear it.

I respect the guy highly, not for his magic skills but for his media skills and understanding of the media and the audience he has.
He is a master at what he does, I just don't always like it.

I love his magic shows, I am bored by his stunts.
I'm not one of the haters, I'd swap places with him in a shot, lol.
But then I'd be in a boy band if the money was right :)

I agree the subject has been done to death, on every board but the guy is new here, new to magic-ish and just wants to chat, surely we can understand that.

We all know the best way to stop a thread is to not post in it and the best way to lose a new chatter is to ignore him.

Oh I'm torn like a soon to be restored card.
Ok, I'll change the subject, Tom, is that you in your avatar, I've always wondered?

I'm a pro Blaine and don't mind discussing something I've discussed before. In fact I reckon I'd be really hard pushed to only discuss completely new things. Besides a discussion on the same subject with new people is never going to be the same and that's assuming I've not changed my mind due to fickelness or Blaine having done something too change my position.

So DB love him or hate him it's difficult not to admit he has done a lot more than most for magic. :)

no, that's Dean Tavalores from the League of Gentlemen!!!
Is it!? Blimey.
I wasn't suggesting you were being nasty Tom, you are American, if you were being nasty you would have carpet bombed his country :P
I just wanted to add my thoughts in a reasuring hand round the shoulder kinda way.

Did I just say blimey in public?

Happy Toad, from what I've seen of his shows and what I know of how much you spent on magic last year, I would say you have done far more for magic m8, just in a different way ;)

I think I shall summarise:

In general most of us agree that Blaine is a talented magician but that we wish he would go back to magic rather than the silly stunts.

There has been some discussion on the subject of his performance style, some have said that they think it is good (it certainly gets audience reaction) and some have said that they think that it lacks a bit of effort. We have all agreed to differ on the subject.
