Strange coincidence or just a fluke?!

Postby themagicwand » Jul 31st, '08, 00:10

I did a corporate gig tonight, a full-on old school mentalism act with loads of billets and centre t**rs and sw***s. It was great.

I started off doing an "ESP test" on the audience with zenner cards. The people who did the best were invited to predict the number I was thinking of from 1 - 100. I sw***d a winner who was to join me on stage later.

So at the end of the show this woman joins me onstage for more zenner card fun. I did Zenner Tech (if you don't know it, the spec correctly predicts all 5 cards in order) with a jury on stage with us to ensure fair play (told you it was old school!).

After the woman had left the stage to raptourous applause, I bid everyone good night. The promotors then ran on stage to ask me to "do the raffle". Everyone had their raffle tickets in hand, I reached into the hat, and pulled out the number of...the woman who had just done the zenner routine on stage with me. At this the crowd went wild.

Seizing the moment I took the mike and announced, "There! What more proof do you need?!"

Don't you just love moments like that? You can't buy 'em.

That's really strange. But I'm glad you had the common sense to seize the moment.

A couple of months back, I bought 10 sttrips of raffle tickets. 5 for my son, 5 for me.
I then mixed the strips up and got him to choose 5 strips, telling him he had to leave me the winning ticket. This was not anything to do with magic, just to give each of us a random selection.

He somehow managed to choose the first 5 strips in order, leaving me the second 5. I was quite impressed, but people just said "what do you expect, they do magic."

What did make it better was the fact that one of my tickets was the first one out!

I do a trick where I remove the joker to show its just a normal pack in the prosses of doing so.

I then turn the cards face down and have them pick a card.

Its strange but I always place the joker near the centre, and on more than one occassion I have forgotten to take it out prior to starting the trick.

Whats strange is about 70% of the time doing this "wrong" and I have a few times for some reason, they pick the joker that is needed later in the routine.

It must be that its near the centre and someone casually picking a card goes for that spot, but it is interesting and each time its happened its only me that has appreciated what they just did!

I don't do the classic force but I think I may practice it with this trick, if I miss its no problem I can just get the joker out later in the routine.

If i say " if you win they will swear its a fix" just before picking the raffel ticket out of a drum, for some bizare reason that person wins.

Its happened 3 times. no fooling, and no fiddling.
how odd is that eh?

not only do you have a "one in a million moment people will talk about forever" but you also have the perfect reason to NEVER try it again.

"of course" you COULD do it repeatedly... but that just wouldn't be "fair" now would it!
