Me In A Nutshell

Postby Elemental » Aug 4th, '08, 00:37

Hey, Elemental here, as you can plainly see. Just thought I would give everybody an idea of who they are talking to when they are telling me off :D

I am 17 years old, living in Canada, and currently attending high school. I started doing simple card tricks at a young age, but for some reason that is lost to me I stopped for quite a while. I recently rediscovered my liking for making people think outside the box, and thats why I am here.

I love card tricks, as anybody does, but I want to take on something that you don't see everyday. Card tricks, while still a big number in my books, are starting to become too popular, and you see them a lot. I want to take on tricks using the elements, water in particular has always been a friend to me. Therefor, I come to you today under the name Elemental, hoping to get some tips on every topic possible from performance techniques to what seems to work for you while practicing. (Just ask if you feel like you want a real name to call me by ^_^)

Hey, maybe I will even find someone to apprentice under? Oh well, all in due time I suppose!

Hi Elemental (my dear watson) - welcome to tm.

I like the name and premise for an act. I can see you will have fun with the Fire effects - maybe the odd Water Torture chamber as well? and for air effects - well I guess a few leviations.

Have fun here.Where abouts in Canada are you?

Ha, you just made my day. You will come to learn I have a serious issue with having to use bad puns every time I get the chance! I have to be careful with the Fire effects. I have a slight fear of that element, but hope that this art will help me overcome it along the way. I have seen flash paper in some acts and have decided that fear or not, I absolutely have to use some at one point or another. For water I am hoping to use some chemicals or motion manipulation with it to the extent of a few illusions, or possibly escapes once I am comfortable with easier escapes. Definitely a levitation or two for air, and possibly some physics with the cards being tossed with some sort of twirl in mid air. I have already gotten really good at throwing cards powerfully and smoothly in a straight line. I'm also looking into anything I can come up with for the Earth element, although I am at a loss as to how I can design anything for it... FOR NOW! If I am lucky I can take in that some believe in a 5th "spirit" element and use mentalist techniques to that effect.

I'm in Ontario. Used to live in Toronto to be more specific, but moved north to a town that I am sure you have never heard of anyway. Supposed to be moving back though. Now if only I could find a magic trick that would move everything for me...

Hi and welcome! Sorry we had to remove your image sig, no higher than three lines of text is the norm on TM so if you can reduce it and add it again that'll be fine  .

With an excellent introduction like that and an eagerness to learn, I am sure you will enjoy your time here. Enjoy!

NB. we haven 't had much luck with young Canadian magicians...

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I do believe after taking a look around that I am going to love it here. And as for the "excellent" introduction, I think it should only be right I properly present myself as such. You all did it, so why not I? :D

Plus, you have 30 seconds to introduce yourself to passersby on the street before a trick, maximum. Practice how to approach a new face, and you have a trump card up your sleeve... Figuratively speaking, that is
