This again is about perspective of the performer and the spectator. It's easy to ribbon spread cards so they are orientated towards yourself rather than the spectator, we get used to this, making sure the indexes of the cards are the "right way up" for the spectator and the same applies in this example. The cards should be oriented for the spectator not the performer.
However, if you are getting it down to just two "outs", I'd argue that a stronger finish could be accomplished with a card in an envelope on show throughout the effect - this of course would be an envelope with two compartments separated with a divider made to match the envelope.
However, as mentalist we need to remember that the occaisional "miss" makes the "hits" even stronger. If you are performing for an audience chances are that someone will have thought of the force card, when I miss I throw this open to the rest of the spectators present. Someone will have thought of the card. When you miss move on to something sure fire guarenteed to hit.
