Jay Sankey is a Canadian close-up magician and has been creating magic effects since the mid-1980s, He is also know as a stand up comedian, But mostly For his magic. Jay sankey has written many books and guides but his two most famous are (arguably) "Revolutionary Coin Magic" and "Revolutionary Card Magic".

In a Flash - best product i've ever bought from the guy.

Has some great ideas, is very funny, a good teacher but needs to come down with his selling/release speed.

It seems he's got a new product every week.

Still, there really is some cracking material if you get through the trash.

Personally I think that the guy is a brilliant magician. He is hilarious to watch. He can make fun of a crowd without making them feel isolated. However, he has so many products that I find many don't have amazing quality. There are a few gems in his collection, but, alot of the tricks are just run of the mill.

Yes, Jay Sankey is a great magician and very creative in his magic. He is funny and productive.

I just think though it's risen a little bit to his head. He was in Blackpool last year and it was strange to see him with what seemed to be a "bodyguard" in the hall. He gave a lecture in the VIP room, and immediately after he left, while people like Juliana Chen, Gregory Wilson and many more stayed for a while afterwards, signing autographs, posing for pictures and Juliana even took good time to show hand position to a few individuals, 1 on 1.

One, interesting fact I heard about Jay Sankey: He started in coin magic before he went into card magic, unlike most magicians. That's why he's so dedicated to coin magic and such, which he does superbly.

Jay lives around the corner from me somewhere but I have no idea where. I must keep an eye out for him and see if he still has a bodyguard in tow.

He used to sell svengali decks for me in Toronto or at least he did for a whole week. At the start of the week he was nice and polite to the customers treating them with great courtesy. At the end of the week he was snarling at them.

I remember when he first became famous among magicians. I ran around asking them "why is Jay famous?" I am still not sure. No doubt someone will enlighten me.

I remember giving him a cheque for $400 thinking it would take three days to go through the bank just like it did in Britain. It bloody didn't and he was able to cash it instantly because of the stupid Canadian banking system where they cash some cheques instantly and some not so instantly based on whether they like the look of you or not. They liked the look of him and they didn't like the look of me so it caused me some cash flow problems at the time.

No wonder he needs a bodyguard.

I agree that Jay has some great dvds out, and yes he does seem to have so much material at his disposal. Fair play to him. I love paper clipped - it's one of my favourite card transpo's.....and the flying shuttle pass thing he teaches on Revolutionary Coin Magic is a great move all coin magicians should have a go at.

Im eagerly awaiting his next release. No doubt it wont be long before he brings out another gem for the magic community....I wonder how times he'll say "Boom" during the explanations on the next dvd? I think we should all have a sweep stake on that one.

I love Jay and his work... big surprise eh?

But really, he's one of the warmest and most genuinely funny magicians I have ever met. When I auditioned for him in Toronto about a year ago, I was more terrified than I have ever been before. I was literally quivering while sitting among the other 15 or so hopefuls in the waiting room. As soon as I was called in to audition, I was immediately put at ease by Jay's easy-going personality. He cracked me up a couple of times and I was totally calm, cool, and collected as I went into my audition. I did a 13 card location routine in which I located the Ace through King of Hearts in perfect order from a genuinely shuffled deck of cards. It involved some pretty heavy sleight of hand, which explains my previous nervousness. But, I went through it without a hitch. The audition went perfectly. If it wasn't for Jay's personality, I fear the worst may have happened. I could barely hold a deck in my state.

Not nearly as many times as he says 'lets try something......'

Personally I like a lot of his humour, although not all. His 'very best of' dvd set is very good value, far better than the terribly-produced 'greatest hits' set. The only packet tricks I have of his are dough, nailed, public transit, zero gravity and mercuring. I only buy these when they are on sale, but they are reasonable value. His revelations shirt is quite good value as well.

Jay Sankey is an absolute hero of mine. Not because at times I feel that I am as equally mentally unstable as he is but because the majority of his stuff is just so damn commercial.

Jay has made a living from in particular doing restraunt work and for any of you guys who have done this sort of work you're effects have to be sharp, funny and memorable in order for patrons to mention you at the end of the evening when they're paying the bill. This equals a regular gig and Jay's effects are perfectly suited to this. I always have a good smattering of Jays work in my working repetoire!

Also his video 'Oh My God' Is one of the funniest things I have ever seen!!

Anyone read Sankey's Beyond Secrets? Not a single effect in it, but the little snippets of advice in this book are absolutely priceless. If we all read it and put some of the advice into practice, then perhaps magicians wouldn't have the poor reputation that they do amongst some of the laity.
