What is this trick called

Postby gymguy203 » Aug 14th, '08, 01:46

there is a really strong stage effect and and i dont know what its called. The magician shows a clear box with an envelope inside. The box is locked and in full view at all times. The magician then asks an audience member for a persons name. He then asks another audience member for a color. One more time he asks for someone's favorite vacation spot. After all the questions are answered the magician opens the locked box and reveals that all the answers match the answers of the audience members.

If anyone knows the title of this effect or the title of a similar effect, i will greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

You may just be asking as you wish to purchase this, or a book with the effect in.

However, this is your first post. You haven't posted in the introductions section, so we don't know if you have a background in magic or not.

Going by your first and only post so far, it reads as if you just want to learn the name so you can look up the secret for free.

Don't expect any help from the members here, who HAVE actually read the rules.

I dont know if this is a marketed effect, but sounds to me like one put together through use of the basics.
im very new to magic and can see of one way it can be achieved.
If you have a lot of experience in magic as you say, then sit down, look at what your tyring to schieve and what skills you already possess that you can utilise to perfrom this effect. Then play and prractice till yu get it right.

Hi Gymguy.

One version is called Master prediction system by Doug Malloy

http://www.malloymodernmagic.com/master_prediction.htm

It is an expensive piece of kit!

Chris Angel performed this effect using Doug Malloys version on one of his tv shows. I'm sure its on TM somewhere, if not search Youtube for the clip.

Hope this helps?

You (sometimes) get what you pay for. It was a feature effect on one of Criss Angel's TV shows and I think in another famous performer's act as well.

Somewhat cheaper is the Glass Box Prediction by Devin Knight and Al Mann, but it's not had a great write-up: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic24175.php

it is such an amazing effect and by seeing peoples reaction on Criss Angel, you can tell that it is worth the price. But the problem is that i cant afford it and the glass prediction box just doesnt seem like a kicker that would leave people mind boggled. What should I do?

If you have a read through Corinda or Annemann you'll find all the methods that you'll need to do the same effect. It might not be the same method but could be done very easily with a little thought.

The Malloy Prop was originally developed by Dick Zimmerman many years ago, who recently gave Doug the manufacturing rights to it. It is "the best" of that type of system and for a working magician, the price isn't all that bad... bear in mind, pieces of this sort are deliberately priced so as to keep them out of the hands of the merely curious.

Yes, there are other versions but my suggestion to you, given your assumed age bracket and lack of experience, is if you wish to do a solid prediction routine, look into the "Air Tight Prediction"... it is basically a balloon with the prediction obviously kept inside... at the appropriate time you pop the balloon and voila! Your prediction is found from amidst the pieces of rubber, opened and read... prove to be on the mark.

I've used this prediction for over 25 years on a fairly regular basis and it's never failed me. The effect is similar to what you're looking for though the method is completely different (the Zimmerman system requiring a few "extras" you're probably not noticing) so you'll have to practice things and design the routine and approach in a manner that fits you and your character.

you know the version of this in 13 steps, has always been one ive felt the need to perform.
but despite nagging, and persuading good people such as Ted Lesley, the esential low tech gaff ( and if you know the effect you will know what i am talking about here) is still not available.

Lomster is right. There are several ways to pull off this effect just as spectacularly and jaw dropping, for literally pennies!

Use your imagination, try and think it through what you want to achieve and whats the best way to achieve it!

Would that be the same one where they pick a city?

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.
