I know the first one is in reprint, but until than I was thinking of getting the second one.

My question is does the second one require any reference or prior knowledge from the first one?

Not really.

A couple references of psychological forces, but they are either retaught, improved and retaught, or incredible common (Triangle/circle, etc.).

I only have volume 2, and I thoroughly enjoyed it independently.

I have both and can highly recommend Volume II

Any ideas when the first one will be back on the shelves? I have it in my mind that I read somewhere about October / November but not sure.

It will be around fall so that's what I was guessing. In time for christmas anyways.
