I absolutely love the ID, but I rarely perform it close up now - I only ever perform it in my stage show. I use a jumbo ID, and the routine lasts 8 minutes.
I personally think the ID is very underated in terms of limitations. You can get a LOT of business out of the ID. This is the reason why I dont use it for close up as much now. I like the fact that I get a full 8 minutes out of a relatively self working effect.
My routine is pretty simple to understand, and is packed with comedy. It also now features the 21st century bra routine as an add on.
The basic plot of the routine is:
2 Specs on stage (male and female)
ID given to female
Shuffled
Thrown to male (lots of comedy potential)
Jokers removed (a lot funnier performed than it sounds here0
Male chooses red or black, and throws away the one he doesnt want
Throws the card to female
Chooses a suit and throws away the one she doesnt want
Throws back to male
Male chooses odd or even cards and throws away what he doesnt wnat
Throws them to female
She chooses one from the remaining Cards
Tadaa, a modern miracle.
One thing that I use every single time but no one picks up on is when they select either the odd or even cards. This way, you effectively eliminate the Court cards. I believe in a stage performance particularly that it is very difficult to differenciate between the court cards so you have "psycologically" eliminated them from the equation.
Also, I dont do the maths during the routine - I have absolutely no need to. When I perform it I hold the cards up at just below my face level. By doing this it ensures the whole audience can see the pack, and also means I can see exactly what im looking for! (If you have the deck you will know what I mean).
If you want to check out the routine you can visit:

Now, that routine ISNT the exact routine I do now. This was filmed the first time I performed the effect on stage as a learning curve for myself. Eventually I will get round to filming the routine as it stands today, which includes the 21st century bra and the routine is a lot slicker with a few extra lines.
Thanks guys, enjoy the ID - its served me extremely well over the past 12 months particularly!
