I know there's been some talk around about Luke Jermay and his business dealings (namely, that he doesn't honor them: http://www.magicbunny.co.uk/phpBB2/view ... hp?t=40378).

Yesterday I received the following from the Lybrary.com newsletter which was, apparently, touched on at the Cafe as well.

Chris Wasshuber wrote:As I pointed out on the Magic Cafe, I have come to an agreement with Luke
Jermay to release all of his future ebooks exclusively through Lybrary.com.
I will also help him put past problems in order.

If you have any grievances with Luke, for example products paid for and not
received, please know that you also have the option to contact me and I
will try to help you put things right. Even though I had nothing to do with
Luke's past dealings, I am helping to assure you are not left standing in
the rain and to give Luke the headroom to do what he does best, share his
thoughts and create stunning magic and mentalism.

Mmmmm.

I have issues with LJ and his dealings.

Love his work.

Hate the fact that I paid for items never to be received - months ago

if that's true then it's a fairly nice gesture of Lybrary.

However, it doesn't stop Luke coming across as someone who's happy for you to be out of pocket and is far more bothered about making a quick buck than providing strong, good value material and being an approachable and likeable member of the magic community.

Just because someone has a degree of celebrity doesn't mean they should be able to act how they want and have everything smoothed over by a simpering manager who apologises, writes cheques and pleads with everyone to put up with their behaviour because of their creative gift - plenty of people can be creative as well as being decent human beings.

Sankey puts out his own stuff, although I guess he has a small company now. But when I emailed him with a fairly small issue, he replied immediately, offered to replace my props (despite it incurring international shipping charges) which he did promptly, and thanked me for supporting him.

Whatever you think of the magic, the service is a big part of the buying experience and speaks volumes about what sort of person you're dealing with. If I can provide good service selling bits and bobs on eBay for tuppence, you'd think Luke could manage to post out people's (IMHO already overpriced) stuff.

According the the Magic Convention Guide
…Luke Jermay is originally from Essex, UK but now lives and works in Las Vegas as a mindreader...
It might be worth asking them if they know of any more specific contact details.

There are two sides to every story. I think Luke should come on TM and/or the Bunny and address his customers; to explain the situation if nothing else. If it was me, I wouldn't want a reputation like the one he has apparently got now. It's no good, unprofessional and stinks. Like poo. I think Luke has some good material out there so it would be a shame to neglect the customer service side of things.

So come on, Luke. Say your piece and put right any wrongs before your reputation goes forever down the drain. Don't want to see you going the same way as Mr. Cassidy and others.

Stories like this are fairly commonplace.

Without resorting to childish namecalling, his accent is nearly as grating as his tattoos and it's no coincidence that as soon as he starts writing for Trick of the Mind it puts people to sleep faster than Derren Brown calling a public phone box.

Apparently, Bob Cassidy is notorious for neglecting to send orders out promptly or, in some cases, sending them at all. I say "apparently" because I have not had personal experience of this but I know some TM members have. It's a shame to have an otherwise spotless reputation tainted in such a manner; it seems like such a waste.

Lybrary has taken over all Cassidy's products and the backlog is clearing. Cassidy is a f**kup, basically. A business nightmare. He has lots of problems. Being a member of his forum meant being spammed several times a month for new products that were never going to happen. It beggars belief that no one actually sued him. NEVER deal with Cassidy directly, only Lybrary.

It looks like our tattoed friend may be headed down the Cassidy path of no return.

I tried '3 kinds of softness' to get my cash - nothing.

So tried '3 types of legal option' - FINALLY, got my refund.

It took over a year. Sad.
