Appearing Shot Glass / Liquid

Postby KingJeux. » Sep 2nd, '08, 23:33

I recently landed a job as a bartender and was thinking of adding some magic to it. I was thinking of one effect in particular that may or may not exist. Does anyone:

a) know of any kind of trick where a shot glass appears or an empty shot glass fills up with the wave of a hand?

or

b) have any ideas on how something of the sort could be created?

Thanks a lot!

Not to be one of those annoying people who anwser a question with an anwser that doesn't quite fill the criteria...

Give Lennart Green's empty normal glass to full, I know it's not a shot glass, but it is pretty amazing.

wouldnt be suitable for a bartending setting. You need to be sitting down with a cloth. doing it standing up would be very difficult. if it is loud as well, you wouldnt be able to verbal misdirect.

Though i guess it is possible still!

Whenever i go out clubbing, i just back-palm a shot-glass, and produce it!

I do over the head with plastic shot glasses, and people never know because it is too loud to hear it fall.

I guess a TT could be used to fill one up. Vodka from empty hand? haha

why yes i do. I have in my collection a little item called the Delbins gobblin glass.

this is an ungaffed shot glas, which can produce, or vanish a measure of drink.

unfortnatly its no longer available, and i use mine.

but it would fit the bill perfectly.

Have you looked into Splash Bottle production?

Produce a bottle from a balloon. I normally use it to produce a full glass (normally half but pints work too) from their jacket.

This might not be much help, but I'm sure you could get away with murder while slamming a shot glass down on the bar. Bladder on a pull, maybe?

Royal Magic produced a vanishing shot glass, if that's any good to you. The p**l was made in such a way that you could vanish a shot glass with liquid in it.

If you want to make a full shot glass appear, you can make a very simple holder to put in the relevant place. PM me if you want more details.

I got my vanishing shot glass from Roy Walton years ago, but you might want to try Magic Nevin or maybe Mike Datana, I'm sure either would be able to fix you up with something useful.

Daniel Tong's 'Finally' DVD contains an appearing shot glass that's full of liquid - ungimmicked glass too.

I can't remember if he produces it as part of his egg bag routine and it's very visual and rather simple in technique.

A great pair of DVD's with lots of good material - see here:

Appearing Shot Glass

Postby Allen Tipton » Sep 6th, '08, 11:24

:D The old Percy Abbott 'Squash' Glass vanish could be useful. In this you throw the shot glass up into the air and is vanishes. Miles Sinclair at Magicial Wonders still sells it but under another name as the Vanishing Glass. It is still a plastic shot glass. The gimmick which you could make (pm me) is also useful as a hidden holder.

I can tell you of a very simple way of holding 1 or 2 of those 'longish sherry( full) glasses' (pm me)

There is the production of a half pint glass full of liquid. You pull off your coat, turning it inside out and there you have the full glass.

And what about the Healed & Sealed Coke tin? Very visual.

I'm sure Davenports will still sell the Wine Glass Production holder.about £1:50

There's the Splash Bottle (Burst a balloon and there's a champagne Bottle) at £28 Often done close up.

The Invisible Stopper. Bottle with liquid. It doesn't run out. Matchsticks pushed up inside and the liquid stays. It runs out when you wish. £1:50

Universal Floating Gimmick at £3. Float a glass a cup etc.

The as a barman carries a pen. The Pen Thru Anything.

Slush Powder. And the Slush powder book by Gabe Fajuri at £3

The Glorpy ( Haunted Handkerchief) adapted to a bar napkin.

Torn & restored paper napkin.

Any tricks with notes/bills

Check out Tom Mullica..The magic barman

At around £6 Check out Karl Fulves Self Working books( especially Table Magic) and Martin Gardner's 'Table Magic. There is also his Encylopedia of Impromptu Magic. I think this immense work is soon due out on CD

You have a natural servante or lapping place with a bar.

In Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic he gives an explanation of how to make a wine glass appear and sure you could modify it to use a shot glass, the effect's oin the bottom of page 363. It's an old effect, but, should still be usable. :D

Eugene Burger markets a lovely full shot glass from an empty paper bag effect. Quite brilliant.
