Aspirations.

I suppose I desire something greater for magic as a whole.

I would love to see magic be non-trivial, a worthwhile intellectual pursuit, and a sharp reminder that the walls of a cold and unfeeling reality that we seemingly clamour place ourselves in, are no more "real" than fairies and pixiedust.

Speaking personally, Gods, Demons, nations, flags, hope, love and hatred - none of these things exist.

Doesn't mean they're not important.

Magic, however you spell it, is the single most effective tool for bridging the lands between metaphor and reality. We dance naked along the borders of the unknown and sing strange songs to sorcerors long since forgotten.

To exist as a magician, of whatever arbitrary standard, and wearing whatever stripes, is to fundamentally realise that the world is, in fact, a lie, and that it is shockingly easy to manipulate people, and alter their perception of reality.

Magic is a rare and wonderful mistress, but with the best of intentions, she's treated like a whore.

I want to create magic.

Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

One thing I've always thought about when a coin is at hand is putting the coin in the open left hand.Showing it clearly that it is in actual fact there.Closing the left hand and re-opening after 2 seconds. The coin Vanishing.Sleightless and gimickless. If I could Obtain that effect I would gladly put my cards away...

I would love no gaffs, endless decks of bicycles and bees, all of Ortiz' material, all of Green's material, all of Brown's material and "reality is plastic". I'd also love the hands of John Scarne and the wit of Frankie Boyle....... Not too much to ask is it? :D

James, 19, Lifelong student of magic and will carry on learning for the rest of my days if I'm a very lucky boy.

There was a great trick I saw Derren Brown perform (and teach) on his 'Devil's Picturebook' DVD where he turned a chosen card into a bundle of rose petals. Probably my favourite trick on there, and I'd love to have the sleight of hand to be able to do it. (Will just have to put in the hard yards with simpler tricks first it seems, though.) Then again, like most other people, I'd love just to have the sleight of hand skills to do any of his tricks rather than a bag of gaffs and gimicks.

Luckily mine can come true with practice, practice, and a lot more practice. :)

I too absolutely adore the presentation of Derren Brown's Zamiel's Rose on Youtube. I love the story telling hook of "when I was 5..." (or whatever age it was), and as elegant as the handling is, for me the clincher is the presentation. Probably capable of learning the sleight involved, but have never got round to it.

My magical desires would be - to be able to perform loads and loads of powerful magic, totally impromptu. Any deck of cards, or a napkin, a coin, an olive... I know a few tricks with these things but I don't feel I could pitch up with almost nothing in my pockets and be guaranteed to entertain.

But my other magical desire is slightly more melancholy, and that is to simply keep doing magic into my old age. I love the idea of having grandchildren who are entralled by grandad's magic tricks... I know usually we mock those family members who think they know a bit of magic ("uncle charlie's 21 card trick"), but still... imagine having Dai Vernon as a grandad!

And the next few years of my life are really pretty hectic. Finals, then foundation training as a junior doctor - it's gonna be hard not only to find the time to keep it up.

So yeah - my desire is to still be doing magic - and to have improved - in a few years :(

Magic-wise I would simply like to get better at presentation, which is an area where I fall on my a**, and hard. I greatly enjoy performing magic for people and would love to find a way to make money with it somewhere down the road-esp. since my real desire of my bands lineup changes to end so we can begin writing arent happening anytime soon.

But thats it mostly.

Mine would be simply be to own a big old derelict mental asylum that I could turn into my very own entertsinment parlour, a sort of cross between simon drakes house of magic and the london dungeons with my own freaky twist, and people could pay to come in in small groups with me dressed in a sort of monks robe performing really wierd and spooky magic.

If that never happens , I would go to the completely other end of the scale and just like a gambling table in either a casino or somewhere like Butlin's doing gambling demonstrations. Either way I would be happy

I'd be happy about the release of a book called "All My Card Tricks" by Ricky Jay ;) I know, I know... it's never gonna happen :(

so this isn't magic realted but one thing I strongly desire is an end to ignorance and rascism in my hometown. Its very hard to say I'm proud of my country or humanity in anyway when I hear people talk about shooting the president just because they don't trust a n*****r. And it sucks.

Nice and simple from me, I'd just like to be able to earn a regular income from performing magic. It doens't have to be as a full time pro, just to have a constant stream of weekend bookings comming in.
