Hmm... don't recall Denver the Dinosaur. It could be before my time! No offence, like! I just recall watching The Racoons (i think it was called The Racoons... it had Cyril Sneer in it) before the main Saturday morning kid's TV started. Ah, all those moons ago.

As the risk of getting all evangelical about Lucky Charms, as I say, you CAN still get them here, but they are just at a premium. They do a small pot size portion (a la Pot Noodles), but this is still pretty dear at £2.99 (for one bowl!).

Lady of Mystery, I empathise with the sorrowful state of affairs in relation to Fanta: even the colour is a mere shadow of its once glorious self.

I'd a packet of tomato Snap and a packet of cheese Snaps and mix them together.

Then I'd like a packet of Fish and Chips, the little crackery biscuit things.

I'd like a side order of cola cubes, a packet of toffos and a coffee walnut whip.

I'd also very much like those white stick things that look nothing like cigarettes.

Oh, I always liked them! Even though they did taste mainly like chalk. If you got one with a good red "lit" end you could moisten it and use it as lipstick -- two pretend-grown-up things in one. Or if you didn't want lipstick, you could always dot it over your face and say you had measles.

The cheaper sweet manufacturers still make those, but aren't allowed to call them cigarettes any more or make the boxes look like ciggy packets. Instead they're just called "candy sticks" and the boxes have things like dinosaurs or Spider-Man on them. Doesn't matter, kids know what they are.

When I was little you could buy long rolls of waxed paper with little dots on them. Basically like dots of royal icing stuck to the paper, in various lurid colours. And just like royal icing, there was no particular flavour except "sweet", except you could also taste the food colouring in some of them. Especially the purple ones. They were probably the cruddiest sweets in history, but they were so darn cheap that every kid bought them. Fantastic marketing for the sort of age range when sheer quantity ranks higher than quality.

I was always morally torn about those purple ones. They tasted worst -- almost inedible -- but purple was my favourite colour, so I felt honour-bound to like them best.

EDIT: Whoo-hoo, found them! The colours are a lot nicer now than in the '60s. Probably taste better too, using the word "taste" loosely.

Yes and the boxes made exquisite molds for making sand-pyramids in the back garden.

Ah yes, I used to drink two bottles of red Yazoo to get me through double Russian on a wednesday afternoon.
It made me laugh solidly for 3 hours.

DOUBLE RUSSIAN???

Was there small corner of Newcastle preparing for Mother Russia to come rescue them?

When I was in my teens I managed to buy a whole bucket of Nerds -- not loose, but a bucketful of those teeny little boxes of them.

Whoo hoo! In fact, there were so many that by the end they'd absorbed moisture from the air and went a bit weird.

Does anyone remember Vice-Versas?

Image

They were kind of like Mistrels. if it was white on the outside it had milk chocolate inside, and if it was brown on the outside it contained white chocolate. Yum!

According to Wikipedia they still have a cult following. 8)

I say bring them back!!!!!!!!

no one ever remembers these when I mention them!

I saw Monster Munch in a shop the other day and they'd turned them back into the old packaging with the old monster design on them.

There's a thing for retro sweets at the mo. I recently saw Wispa for sale in a sweet shop and supermarkets were selling Opal Fruits.
They were supposed to turn Snickers back in to Marathon too.
