Where do you buy your magic - a poll

Postby AlleyMagic.com » Sep 19th, '08, 11:04

I'd love to know where people here buy their magic. Please feel free to elaborate in the replies.

I should add that before I started my own magic store, I was buying both online and from a wonderful brick and mortar store here in Chicago, Magic Inc., which has been in Chicago since 1926. I believe it's the oldest magic store in North America. I've been going there since I was a kid, and had the pleasure of taking my 9 year old daughter there to get her first magic trick (the magic coloring book, which she performed at her little sister's birthday party).

I buy almost all my magic from the internet. I don't know about the States, but over here in Blighty magic shops are few and far between so most of us have to use the internet. If I was fortunate enough to live near a magic shop, you can be sure I would be spending a lot of time in there.

International Magic...unless they don't stock it, then wherever is cheapest online!

There is one magic shop and one shop with a magic booth inside within driving distance.

I like to think I'd try these first for new products, but honestly, I rarely go to either. Neither has had what I needed when I was around and it's much easier to save the gas and order online where I can shop for the best price.

If there were more options in my area, perhaps the situation would be different.

Magic Nevin
Wizmo Magic
Prudhoe Magic

AND of course, let's not disregard the wonder that is Ebay (periodically).

Occasionally buying direct from the manufacturer works out cheaper too, depending on shipping.

I'd prefer to buy from a shop, but I've got most of the tricks available from the closest shop that I like. Unless I'm going to start buying dove pans and sucker die boxes not much more to get from there. So I've had to move onto online buying.

I prefere buying from an magic shop were you can walk to because you don't have to worry when it comes but it is more expansive.
Otherwise from interent I order mostly DVDs because there is and 7 pound difference!
