Postby magichris » Sep 23rd, '08, 21:33

i'll be attending a lecture here in michigan from warpo from new orleans on street magic, performing, and the svengali pitch. i just got done with a street show for a festival and it went veary well. now I'm planning for next year so i come to here for help. here are the tricks/props i'll use for next year (it all fits in my backpack):

harbin-style folding table
cellini cups and balls (with baseball loads)
buskers pouch
TT w/ diamond silk
professor's nightmare
ID
hotrod
$1.12 (in coins(4quaters,2pennies,1dime)
ambitious card/ card to wallet (jorrdanette wallet)

what do you think? (odds are i may not use all props during show)

I never said anything of the sort. Read please. Mark Lewis has something of a reputation for having one of, if not the best svengali pitches. (or so he says) :wink:

More to the point, he put all this down in print and there's a Review at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic12876.php if you need to know more detail....

you might want to get a dye tube so you can do a real nice sucker color changing silk. i go back and forth between the silk/tt and the dye tube.

Vernet makes a cheap plastic one that I like. The palmo is another nice product which holds a lot and is large enough to do a passable "half-dyed hank" routine with.

joe porper make a real nice one too.

Anyway, everyone should know/do a dye tube routine. It's got a lot of positives and for those spectators that know the TT they will be more fooled than the ones that don't know anything.

=========
consider the linking rings, the egg bag, and the slydini silks too. all of those bring out your personality as a performer and can become signature pieces for you.

=========
The busking pouches I designed were meant for cups and balls but also meant for those doing several tricks in their act. i keep a prof. nightmare setup tucked in the outside pocket which keeps it open to receive ditched items like coin shells, a TT, etc. I'm not sure if you have one of those already but they're great.
=========
How are you going to do the cups and balls on a harbin table? Is it sturdy/big enough? Get a suitcase carrier, a tabletop, and a tray stand and wheel all your stuff right to your spot.
=========
I'd drop the ID and take a regular deck and learn a nice funny, entertaining set with cards. Check out Simon Lovell's Cards Accross. Great for the Street. So is Carlyle's Homing Card, and many others.

Just some opinions and ideas.

Best wishes out there. You won't regret one minute of it. you will be twice as good an entertainer after a season of busking. Just do it, baby!!

thanks fstarsinic for your help. the harbin folding tabe I'm talking about is this one: http://www.thetrickery.com/full/Magic-T ... __6227.htm
I'm planning on buying your buskers pouch and i'll look into the dye-tube. i do have an egg bag and a routine that i won 3rd place with at a local magic convention (not abbotts). I'm pretty sure that my table will hold up if not, I'm a woodworker and can make one more sturdy. the cups and balls routine is gazzo's but I'm using different loads (baseballs or tennis balls with a hat load), so this should put less weight on the table. any more feed back? please feel free to do so. last thing, where I'm from (michigan) it's illegal to street perform without proper permits. where can i get these permits?

I'm not sure where to get the permits for your town. Call city hall I guess or the police department. If you remind me, I'll send a free dye tube and silks with your pouch . using a dye tube you can use some nice large silks.

that table is expensive and I'll bet it's not big enough to do a descent cups routine. You want lots of room on the table to have a stack of business cards, a deck of cards, a wand, etc. Don't waste your money on the harbin. If you want the harbin use it for a non-cups act where you use it only for conveniently setting an items or two.

if you're a wood-worker, make your own table and get a restaurant tray stand. a lot cheaper and very versatile.

I use a harbin table for my stand-up act but i really hardly put anything on it. They are NOT that sturdy due to their design.

We are about to do a 15% off on all our table tops. You might consider that. They are EXTREMELY light weight and easy to carry to/from your gigs but they are also RIGID and STRONG. A perfect combo. No other table top on the market is anywhere close. If interested I can get you the discount early. Not a problem. I just have not done the newsletter yet.

thanks i'll keep that in mind. i do have gazzo's book and the table on there is very promising. i just bought a tray stand (or jack in my area) and I'm working on the top. which size table would you recomend for the gazzo routine with baseballs?
