How's this look for a next purchase:

Product Name Unit Price
Heartbreaker by Paul Gertner (Deck and DVD) - Trick 25.20
Bite Me by Paul Gertner (Deck and DVD) - Trick 32.73
Killer Key (With DVD + CANADIAN CURRENCY) by Jay Sankey - Trick 21.57
Fine Print trick Jay Sankey 4.32
Razor's Edge (With DVD, Canadian Currency) by Jay Sankey 21.38
None Out of Three (2 sided Canadian Quarter) by Roy Kueppers & Bob Farmer - Trick 13.68
FreaKey (DVD And Props) by Gregory Wilson - Trick 81.23

Subtotal $ 200.11

It has some more good card stuff, but as well some coin, and everyday material tricks for 'impromptu'

For fine print I take it you've been watching Party Animal? A great use for the gimmick

Also I have to agree with Freakey its worth every penny you wish to spend on it and more.

I'd drop razors edge personally but that's because I've seen it action performed lots in the real world and it's not as good as it looks as it were. This was just for me so it could work for you.

As for the rest? I don't know them but if you think you'll use them then you could certainly do a lot worse than your selections. Let us know how you get on with them

Here are some questions to consider before you blow a bunch of money on a few tricks..

Are you a working magician or a hobbiest?
Where exactly are you going to perform Bite Me?

Have you studied paul gertner's triple die lemma trick? from his steel and silver book (or DVD)?

How about purchasing the DVD on the Roadrunner Cull?

How about getting OUT of Sankey mode and into something else?

Have you ever considered getting Slydini's "As I recall" or Cellini's Slydini lecture or his street magic lecture?

How about Shoot Ogawa's "Ninja Rings" routine?

College student, perfoming at parties/bars etc

fstarsinic wrote:Where exactly are you going to perform Bite Me?
at parties, to friends, etc

fstarsinic wrote:Have you studied paul gertner's triple die lemma trick? from his steel and silver book (or DVD)?
not as of yet

fstarsinic wrote:How about purchasing the DVD on the Roadrunner Cull?
got it!

I'm not in "Sankey Mode". as per the previous post, Fine Print is for an effect in Party Animal. Killey Key and FreaKey look to go well together, and Razor's Edge seemed decent.

Haven't heard of any of these.

I've picked these because as I have said they will add some decent card effects, but also include other tricks to add variety to what I am able to perform. Razor's Edge I had tossed in because it came up when Killer Key did and it didn't seem too bad.

The only comment I would make is that you should get one and stivck with it until you have the method and have developed the routine so you don´t even have to think about it. Only then should you even be thinking of moving on to the next.
You see the danger is that with all that behind you you will be dipping in and out of various effects and will not properly learn any of them.
You have plenty of time and I would guess you probably have enough under your belt that you can be performing while perfecting each new one.

To be honest razor's edge is not the best of jay's releases.

Even I have heard of them!

Ninja Rings is a very quick, close-up, miniature version of the Linking Rings.

Slydini is legendary, and his knotted silk trick was recently done by Derren Brown on TV.

I have to say that, even though I've not seen 'Bite Me', the idea just sounds rubbish. Then again, I thought that about the bitten coin too, and it can get good reactions. Just not something I will perform!

No I don't like coin bite, but the deck version looks good. In the demo he gets pretty decent reactions. And the restoration is pretty decent. I decided to scrap Razor's Edge, in favor of perhaps David Penn's Lecture DVD. I am thinking I may not get the double sided quarter either, because I can't think of any real use for it right now anyway.

I am acutely aware that there might be a language barrier at work, and that in Canada 'pretty decent' might mean 'absolutely incredible', but taking your comment at face value, why would you want to spend your hard-earned cash on something that is only 'pretty decent', and a one-trick pony at that?

if you're in college and a hobbiest you can skip
ninja rings for now.

I hate things like bite me because they are one trick ponies. after you do it once you either can't do it anymore or people will ask you to do it when you cannot. i guarantee you it will sit in a drawer.

one great way to go would be to check out impromptu magic so you can do magic with anything at any time.

Gregory Wilson's "On the Spot" DVD is KILLER!!!!! I should have mentioned that the first time. It's a must have.

dinner table magic, etc. there are some great things and there is nothing better than someone saying .. "do something" and you do.

like borrowing a beer coaster from a friend, breaking it open and finding a $100 bill inside.

tearing apart a napkin and restoring it at the bar or a party.

you might check out Paul Cummins' Side Steal DVD and his FASDIU books which have great tricks with a borrowed deck.

a sugar packet travels from under the hands of one friend to under the hands of a different friend while sitting at a cafe.

spoon bending can be cool. check out banachek's PK Silverware. It has a "twist" move that cannot be backtracked. the spoon visually twists and there is no way to untwist it. impossible to figure out.

there's also dice stacking. it's not a trick but you can get a lot of enjoyment out of it by doing it and letting your friends try it.

also check out worlds greatest magic on "magic with dice"

Those are good ideas, and that is the kinda magic I want to get into as well. (the coaster one sounds familiar, where would I have seen this?)

I am just using up some store credit, so I don't mind spending that on one Trick ponies.

I guess it's CUPS, because I see it and want it immediately, but that's why I love threads like these to talk some sense into me ha.

I was looking at Bite Me as you would In A Flash. Not a trick you can do anytime, but when you do it gets quite an incredible reaction. Thanks for your replies though as I have reconsidered a few of these choices.

here's another one.

borrow 4 small things like beans, tiny pieces of pasta, whatever.
small items.

hold them in your palm. one at a time you put an item:

1. in your left tear duct
2. your right tear duct
3. up your nose.
4. in your mouth.

then your snort make funny sounds and facial expressions...
all 4 items come out your mouth. you spit them out one at a time back into your palm.

this trick is on one of tom mullica's impromptu magic DVD.

I did it while visiting another family and their kids.
it was hilarious. one of the kids could not watch me do this.
they had to turn away.

Yeah, baby!! That's classy magic!!!!

The coaster trick is on the Gregory Wilson DVD On The Spot.
