LONDON MAGIC

Postby TylerMason » Oct 14th, '08, 11:52

Im off to London on Saturday 18th Oct, and I haven't been there since I was a kid. It's been decades since then, and I'd love to use the chance to get some close-up magic practise done.

I want to do some performing while im down there.....only problm is, because I was a kid the last time I went.....I don't hardly remember the place at all.

I certainly wasn't concerning myself with the likes of "Where's the coolest bars?" and "Which area's are the most popular?"

I know you need a license to perform in Covent Garden (shame), but does anyone here know of some other good hot spots to go to. Preferably somewhere close-up magic will be well received?

Any Londoners with any suggestions? Or any recent visitors who could give me a few pointers for places to perform impromptu close-up magic?

Thanks for your time. Tyler.

Well the people in the coal hole on the strand certainly don't mind magic being performed there and the bar staff as great as is the selection of ales.

The TM lot have met up there over a dozen times all told and the last time i was there the bar man was telling me off for suggesting we might be moving on :)

Lots of tourists as well as regular trade and easy to find. Enjoy

For outdoor perfromance I would personally suggest the Southbank by the London Eye.
As far as I'm aware there is no licence needed, there are plenty of other acts down there and plenty of tourists.

We popped in the coal hole for a drink a couple of weeks ago on a visit to London. I didn't realise that they're magic friendly, the food was quite nice though

I'm a Manchester boy (although luckily don't have the thick Manc accent), but have been to London a handful of times for nights out and whilst doing dinners and weekends for the Bar exams, but the bars around Hoxton Square are ace for magic. There's a really nice Bohemian feel to Ziegfried's there, which looks suspiciously like where Anthony Jacquin did his Denzel Washington hypnosis on a bartender, as can be seen from Youtube, and I think there was a posted link from him on this forum. I could be wrong, but I could swear it was that bar as it looked pretty similar. I got a good reaction from a crowd there a few months ago. Background noise could be an issue though. Generally I'd imagine most places would be quite receptive. My friend filmed some magic performances on the Tube for his website, so you could try that whilst you're seeing the sights, although maybe when the carriages aint so rammed! Have a good un

Thanks for the ideas and tips. I have printed off a map of the tube, and marked out a route to include the areas of your suggestions. Im really looking forward to this day trip. Should be good.
