Has anyone seen this show yet. It premiered in Dublin last night and is to run for another 17 nights before going to America I believe where Wes Craven is going to take some part with it.
It was an entertaining show with a fantastic set and excellant music. Throughout the show there was always a lot going on giving plenty of misdirection. Joe Daly the main character playing phsycopath magician Daemon Cordell gave a great performance with all the smaller tricks and illusions, accompanied by a sexy nurse and some great juggling clowns.
Now the bad points. Some of the props failed ie. the the huge saw blades for cutting the barrel in half stopped spinning as it went into the barrel. Some of the tricks took too long to set up like the drill through the body, it had about 4 people working on the setup for about 30-45 seconds behind a screen before the effect was seen. And some of the timing was off with the soundtrack like when a handsaw was being used to cut through a body, although it was only the first night so I'm sure these problems will all be sorted out quickly.
Overall I recommend people go see it and enjoy it for what it is, a show, and also because it's the biggest magic production to have been staged in Ireland I think and hopefully it will lead the way for many more and hopefully inspire more people here to take up magic.
One thing I didn't understand though was at the curtain call at the end the sexy nurse came down to bow in her lingerie, a bit weird seeing that she was in uniform for the entire show. It was appreciated, don't get me wrong, just a little weird.
Oh and it had oompa lumpas in it as well and lots of wonderful music from Charlie and the chocolate factory.
So anyway good luck to Joe and the rest of the cast and I hope you sell out the rest of the shows. And I just remembered, what exactly will Wes Craven be doing with the show? it was advertised that he had something to do with the show here but he didn't get a mention in the programme apart from a quote he made about a film.

Hi Brannmanndan

I'm off to see it on Friday - hopefully they'll have some of the wrinkles ironed out by then!

I believe that Wes Craven was involved with writing a new show for the Vegas run... not sure how much of this is marketing/hype, but as far as I know they are bringing it to Vegas eventually....

good stuff I hope you enjoy it. make sure to let me know what you thought of it. they might add a bit more gore on friday being halloween. that was another thing i forgot to mention, there was no blood in the knife through arm or well i won't disclose any more routines before you see it but when I saw him 5 years ago in the helix there was plenty of blood.

saw it last nite (SAT 25th) and really was blown away. went with my girlfriend and she loved i too. they did seem to have a problem with the saw blades too and that was the only fault i could see. the reaction during the interval was brilliant and the second half really kicked ass. outside people were raving about it.
the great thing about this is its so bloody different. think about all the magic shows around.
yea, the music was stunning too.
THE GREAT: music, illusions, Dalys mad performance.
THE BAD: needs more blood, working saw blades

Well, saw this last night - not too bad at all!

I have to admit, that I'm not an "ILLUSION" fan at all - big boxes seem 'clever' rather than magical to me...

So, my favourite parts we're the smaller tricks - floating rose, bubble zombie, floating table etc.

THE GOOD: The 'Frankenstein' character that Daemon Cordell creates at the start of the show (acting-wise, he was the standout of the show), the closeup magic bits
THE BAD: Sound cues being missed, Slightly too much fiddling to get into and out-of a couple of illusions, Sound was too loud.

All in all, got a fairly good lay reaction, although there were bits that I could hear being correctly reverse engineered...

Hey, I actually worked on the show when it was in rehearsal. There were quite a few problems in the earlier shows however they were all ironed out by the end of the run!!!

For anyone interested, the intended plan is to go back to the drawing board and design a show more capable of traveling and where the illusions are all up to the building illusion's standard. The show will then hopefully be in Belfast in late 2009 or early 2010 before moving to the UK and Europe. After that the plan is America.

So yes all you Brits will get to see the show!!!!!!!!!
