Double D by Looch?

Postby magicmindben » Oct 27th, '08, 20:59

So I was looking for Craig Browning on the internet one day, to maybe see if he had a performance video. Anyhow, I ended up finding another performer from the UK, who called himself Looch. I saw a video of him performing, and enjoyed the effect. I went onto his website, went into the "products" section, and found a product which he named "Double D." The description basically just says it is a drawing duplication effect. But there didn't seem to be any other details about it there. The video I saw seemed to be some sort of drawing duplication effect, but I'm not sure it was using the same effect. I am wondering if anybody has purchased Looch's "Double D", and can give me a little more explanation as to how it presents. Here is the video I found somewhere else on the internet of him performing. Once again, I am not sure it is the same effect. But just in case you were curious...

I'd appriciate any more information you could provide on "Double D."

Thanks!

 I have high doubts you will find anything of me on the web when it comes to my performances, though I did find one that someone had posted ages ago that didn't "feature" me but shows me in the background working the Balley Stage to a side show...

Sadly, there is exceptional few clips floating about, especially of more recent times. The one I'm best known for focusing on one of the worse days in my life... the day I fell nearly 1,500 feet into Lake Michigan when an escape went very wrong... there's nothing that can accurately describe the sensation of skipping across the water like a tossed stone would do :?

I've done my best to keep that one out of sight in that far too many people have been hurt attempting similar stunts... one old friend and working associate taking a horrid fall some 80 feet head first onto a concrete parking lot... though alive, he's not the same Michael by any stretch... but he too, strives to keep that footage off the airwaves... that seems to be what responsible performers do, even in the era of JACKASS.

 come to think of it, there may well be a poorly done (8mm original home movie footage) piece of me from when I was about 16, doing my first big "pro-act" -- it consisted of a beautiful dove routine, cards, a quick change, triangle production and mismade lady... 8) does that ever bring back some memories

double D is an impromtu drawing duplication that is very bold. There are numerous ways of creating this effect which leave you really clean. It is not the one you have seen on you tube, which is called influence. The said effect is in his book SAD, which has been reviewed within this forum.

It is a decent way of doing a drawing dup but I know of cleaner ways.
Just my opinion.

One of the cleanest way to do a drawing dupe is David Forrest's "Grass Box" effect. It's absolutely brilliant.

The clip you viewed "Influence" is an integral part of my show and will not be released. I am suprised at the number of people emailing me for the secret. I was offered quite a large sum of cash for it but Im keeping it for me at present.

Double D IS in SAD and is not featured on my new DVD 'Your thoughts are mine' although some material from SAD is performed on there. Please see:

I find Looch's Double D to be quite good, but it does have it's drawbacks. While the handling can easily be adapted to any situation, it is written for a specific kind of situation. Having said that, it's definitely a workable concept and the effect is very direct and strong. There are cleaner ways to work, sure - but this technique is certainly worth knowing. Since we're on the subject - SAD is a fantastic book, worthy of a place in any mentalism library. I can't recommend that book enough.

As much as I like David Forrest's Trickery - and Grassbox - I don't think it's the greatest for actual mentalism work. It is great thinking, though.

Looch, nice to see you again at TM! Influence certainly looks awesome. I'm glad you're keeping it to yourself. We all need some mystery in our lives!

Let me say I'm in no position to criticise a successful performer but as a viewer I'm going to give my honest opinion.

I've seen a Looch DVD and I find the presentational style uninspiring. I don't see a character that is congruent with the effects. With say Derren Brown, his whole persona, clothing etc work in synergy with what he is creating. With this Looch just comes across as any other bloke. I'm sure this is all very "street" but it doesn't work all that well for me.

I'm also of the opinion that the "I'm not psychic but I'm influencing you" thing has been done to death and done much better. Again, take Derren - the master of this presentation style, he throws bits in like asking them to recount something personal and then suddenly interupting them as if he's doing something terribly devious to their minds by distracting them etc. OK I still don't buy it but it COULD be true. Just saying "I'm influencing you" isn't enough IMO.

That being said, the effects were very good and I was impressed in every other way.
