I've got a gig!!!

Postby Johnny Wizz » Oct 27th, '08, 21:31

I am feeling pretty pleased with myself tonight. I have got my first ever real gig on Friday at a Halowwen evening at a local pub restaurant. I saw that the event was on with a disco at 10.00 so I just asked "How about a magician for the earlier part of the evening"

So I got an interview with the manager tonight, put on a ten minute close up show and was hired on the spot with 2 provisional Christmas bookings if all goes well on Friday!

What gave me the impetus to really push myself forward at last? Paul Bells performance at Oxford last Thursday is the answer. It was an inspiration and a living example of the fact that it isn't the trick that counts it is the performance!

Now I have 4 days to put my programme together. I am working on the principal of doing the stuff I know but doing it well. I was dead nervous at the interview and still managed to get som good card stuff in with Holey Moley and my spongeball routine plus I showed a couple of childrens effects in case there are childreen present. I was asked if I did balloon work for future gigs so I said not now but I will by Christmas!

I am intending to angle my stuff towards halloween but I am not making the mistake of trying anything new!

Awesome! I'm doing a show on Halloween too. It's not paid but it should be fun. Good luck hope you get the Xmas bookings as well.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Nice one - use stuff that you know and you'll be more relaxed.
