Hello everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Oliver, and I was born in England, but my mum is Czech and my dad is English. And I live in the Czech Republic. I started doing magic at about 11, and had a professional teacher for about 2 years. But I did stage magic. Then I did stage for about a year or so. I then had a pause for something like a year, and then when I was like 15, I discovered David Blaine, David Stone, Michael Ammar and people like that. So I started doing close up, and the teacher that I had has helped me in a lot things like audience management and nervousness. I now mostly do effects with cards, coins, some mentalism, some blood effects (needle thru arm, etc), etc etc. On Friday I have a haloween performance, and I already have a show prepared, but if you guys have some experience in performing scary magic..please tell me. And I have a performance with my friend in a hospital for ill children as a Christmas gift for the children. Guys tell me about yourselves!
Ollie

Welcome to T.M Ollie.

If you want advice on your act could you give us a description for what your planning to do. I don't mean reveal tricks, or give us a list of what tricks your using, I mean how will you present you performance?

I.E. I walk on stage and talk about how through meditation the blood flow can be reduced to a beat per hour, (I then do the pulse slowing trick) I explain that in this trance state the body can withstand tremendous amounts of damage with little pain (I do the hand twisting trick) etc.

Think about atmosphere. Many people consider the movie 'the shining' to be incredibly scary. But if you watch through it you'll realize that virtually nothing happens other than two scary girls, one old lady, a river of blood, and the father running around with an axe, not much to stretch out through 2 hours 26 minuets. Most of the fear came from the music. The same could be said with Jaws. A Great white shark was basically created by two notes played over and over and a sharks P.O.V swimming through the water.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

I wouldn't go changing anything in your act now, you've only got until Friday so you're much better off practicing and perfecting what you've already got.

[quote="Jean Eugene Roberts"]Welcome to T.M Ollie.

If you want advice on your act could you give us a description for what your planning to do. I don't mean reveal tricks, or give us a list of what tricks your using, I mean how will you present you performance?

Well the setting is a longer table, with about 8 people, and a magician at each end of the table, each with a close up mat. The act itself is structured like this- There is first a sleight of hand section, where I perform effects like two card monte, or the invisible palm, all kinds of ace revelations, some coin effects, some match tricks (candles are present), and a salt pour with the TT (its a dinner table), etc. Then the other magician has a sleight of hand section, with a cups and balls routine, and a sponge ball routine. Then I dim the lights, and create a more scary atmosphere, by lighting candles, and putting scary music on. I also speak in a much quieter and deeper voice. I perform mentalist/scary/supernatural effects like Stigmata, The Haunted deck, A magicians choice with a mentalist presentation, and I telepatically transmit a chosen card to my fellow magician. I then have a short presentation about Houdini, and how he died on Halloween, where I bring up pictures of him. I then have a spectator choose a card, with which I will communicate with Houdinis spirit. I ask if he is there, and yes is written on the card. I then turn it over, and ask everyone to join hands. I ask who is there, and turn over the card, which sais-Harry Houdini. I then roll the card up, and place it on the table. I again ask everyone to join hands, and concentrate on the card. The card starts to suddenly levitate and spin in thin air. I then falls back to the table, and is given to a spectator as a souvenir. If they want more, I will perform Control, which should make them quiet for a while.

Thanks for the advice everyone!!
Oh and how do I get invited into the magicians only section? I used to be a professional stage magician at like 13.....well...by professional I mean that I used to perform at chidrens birthday parties and get something like 500 czk witch was like 10 pounds at the time...does that help me to get into the magicians only?

Hi Ollini. Your act sounds well put together, and as it reads, I think you'll be doing that one trick that we all aim for..... leaving an audience entertained. Your act sounds like one that I'd like to watch. Very nice. I reciprocate your feelings on this site. Aren't we lucky, as magicians, to have a site like this. 'We' are not alone.
