BentSlinkTouch Review

Postby Noodlesoup » Nov 2nd, '08, 06:09

It's been a while since I've been here in the forums. Been busy as usual and acquired a lot of new stuff. I'll post the other reviews soon.

The Effect

If you guessed that prodigy Daniel Garcia had vanished, you guessed wrong. He re-enters Ellusionist with three gems that will build reputation in any act.

"Bent" - a coin warps easily when simply held between the palms. Ends clean

"Touch" - a coin moves from hand to hand slowly… let them burn your hands

"Slink" - two elastic bands link and you can watch them go through each other… the most visual linking ever created

Cost

$24.95

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

About 2 - 3.

Review

Don't be surprised if I purchased an Ellusionist product. The main reason why I got this is for the trick "Slink." The rest are just additional stuff for me...although I really think thay $24.95 is still quite expensive for my current lifestyle. Why do I feel like E had rummaged through their old video bin and found some DG stuff they totally forgot about?

How would I score it? From Slink to Bent to Touch...it will be from Good to Satisfactory to Bad.

Slink is a nice effect and I would definitely add this to my current rubber band routine. I never had much experience with rubber bands before aside from the famous Crazyman handcuffs, so I do not know if this effect is revolutionary (as much as the hype that E created along with it). It is..at least for me and I performed this more than a dozen times already with a few variations to fit my presentation and style. The rubberband penetration is very visual and the handling is quite impressive. 9/10

Bent is simply a coin getting bent inside your hand. The process itself is concealed and it is not as visual as the common coin bends we know and love. I considered this as "satisfactory" since DG taught some variations and sleights that can be used to dispose the coin. Personally, I won't be using this at all. However, I could consider using some of the sleights taught on this effect. 7/10

Touch is something I would forget. It's not as bad as it seems to be but if you already know about DG's other effect called Shade, I would easiy recommend that if you are interested in tabletop coin transpos. Sorry, I really think this one is ugly. 4/10

Overall

Three effects. One worth keeping, one that seems to be okay, and one that you might throw away. You decide. 6/10

I totally agree with this review, almost. I would rate slink a little lower as it is nothing new, an old trick with the angles changed slightly, as we so disappointingly see so much of recently.
I only bought this because it was cheap, not until I watched it, did I realise how cheap it is !!

Fair enough StevieJ. As I've mentioned on the review, I do not really have much background on rubberband effects. Since you mentioned that this has been present for years with adjusted handling and angles, it gives me more reason for asking why is the price is too steep.

I really felt that this was a collection of old DG vids that E just found lying in some hard drive while cleaning the basement.
