I showed them afew card magic tricks as you do

Now the 9 year old want to learn magic hehe,What have i started?
Shall i buy her a magic book or something?
Any good books around for a 9 year old?

I'd go for the off the shelf kind of easy magic with everything books from your local bookshop, or possibly some of the fairly cheep plastic classics like cups and balls or a ball vase.

My kids would much prefer a few good gimmicked tricks such as you get from Marvin.

I'd definitely go for the magic set option. Ooh look! Plastic.

Seriously, it's a better way to get a kid interested (assuming that is really what you are after). Books are good, but I can recall reading about things when I was a kid and wondering where to get them or even the raw materials to make them.
