Problem with ID

Postby TerryC » Nov 17th, '08, 07:17

I have the ID plus Sankey's DVD. It the 'selected' card is in the top third I can handle it--but if it is near the bottom I have a difficult time performing the move. (I suspect that using a bridge size deck might fix it)

However, at 5' 9" I think my hands are pretty normal--anyone else had this problem -- and fixed it?

I'm not sure I have the same ID as you :?

Why not spot your "mate" card. See if its in the portion of the deck you can handle it in. If not, cut the deck so its in a comfortable position for you.

If your deck is new they can take some working in. Keep practicing with the deck and the problem should sort itself.

I'm not sure why you have a problem ? Just feed the cards from one hand to the other until you get to the selected card, then push it forward and continue to feed the cards through showing that they are all the same way up. I have smallish hands and don't have a problem.

when i do the ID, i fan the cards out in front of my face, so i can see the named card.
Its a no brainer method that guarentees 100% accuracy.

Incidently, im not alone in doing this. Wayne Dobson for one, used this handling for many years.

Fine for stage but not so good if surrounded in walkaround reception type stuff

That was my thoughts. I believe levels are very important with close up so everything needs to be done at table level. If your doing your whole set at table level then for one effect you bring the deck up to your eye level, I think there will be a level of suspision.

As for stage, the whole effect is done at the face sort of level. Theres a youtube link lying around on TM somewhere that shows you mt stage performance. Take a look and if you have any questions then give me a shout.

It would be a shame not to do it - just bring the deck down to table level and parallel with the floor and you are completely angle proof (as long as there are no kids sitting/standing directly below !)

I should also add that i dont fan the cards in close up.I run through them, holding the cards at chest level. There is virtually no way that anybody except me can see what i can see.

Im a wide bloke

Lick the thumb of the hand you push off form and rub some moisture off it onto your middle finger. You'll get better traction all the say through the deck.

Speaking of Invisible Decks, does anyone know where i can get one with the Blue Star back in a Tally Ho stylee?

I used to use Bikes but have recently opted for Tally Ho's and if i want to use the ID thing it means i can't use my Tally's.

I googled it but only found Black Ellusionist type Tally's.

It'll probably be easier and cheaper to make your own from a regular deck and the neccesary fluid/spray.

I use that same method, Richard Saunders knowing that I hate anything to do with numbers pointed that little tip out to me. Not only that I re-arrange the deck slightly so its an odds and even thing.

I've got my own little way of doing this which means that I don't have to worry about the numbers at all. Makes life so much easier :D
