Ring my bell

Postby Chris » Nov 19th, '08, 13:35

I am currently looking for a bell thats had got a stand with it, possibly hooked on..for use in a seance..the bell I currently have is one of these lobby reception hotel types, but it looks far to new, and after Toms lecture the other day I feel I need something far more antiquetic, if thats a word? The troubles is typing bell into a search engine comes back with all sorts of pulp....Wers a good bell shop?

Maybe a long shot -
I used to work in an old hotel that had an old doorbell installed. It was probably about 80 years old - the type you'd expect to be in an old townhouse. The bell itself was on the end of a long rigid coil of metal, and this meant that the bell rattled very easily when it was pulled by the mechanism.
They bought it a few years earlier from ebay or somewhere similar. I remember the guy who ran the hotel telling guests some bull***t or other that it was the doorbell from Blenheim Palace.

Perhaps searching for one of these could help?

We bought a reproduction old School Bell type item recently from a garden centre. You would need to make the stand though

i would argue that within the right context and framework of the seance, you dont HAVE to have an aged bell...

the story wouldnt have to be about the bell, but the spirits coming and contacting you via the object(s) in question...

why not just go to a bootfair? or check on ebay?

Not sure if this suits your needs - but this is something I found with a quick search on google

http://cgi.ebay.com/Collectable-Solid-Brass-Decorative-Hotel-Desk-Bell_W0QQitemZ110311791614QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDecorative_Collectibles?hash=item110311791614&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

Nice looking, and already looks authentic. I'm sure with a bit of work, you can make it look like an antique.

Your correct Fairie it was only the bell Ive got is unsuitable for the certain Im attaching to it...the gap at the bottom is to close to the table and I cant adjust the height or unscrew it...So because I need another bell I may as well buy and aged on already that fits the job..but thanks xxx

have you had a look in an antiques shop, the ones around here always have old ship's bells in them. I don't know what they cost though.

It's one of my favorite and can be had from Ed Fowler (Carlyle). It is a great piece. But then for a few thousand dollars Chris, you could visit Dan Baines and get one of his new Swami Spirit Altars  (see http://www.myspace.com/swamiseancefor a look at mine)
