You guys might already have talked about this but i was wondering what your best reaction to a trick was.
I don't mean the kind of outrageous Blaine-esque reaction, although if you have had that then share, i mean what really made it good for you........as it were, and what was the effect that made this happen?

Mine is when i did a trick i can't even remember the name of, a friend showed it to me, the crux of it is you spread the cards face down in a haphazard fashion, then tell the spec to point to different cards you name. Do it four or five times then turn the cards over and they match.

Anyway, i did it for someone and after i'd laid the cards down this chap stared at me for a good ten seconds, which is a long time to stare at someone quite openly in silence, then said ' I dont like that ', and walked away quickly.

It was my favourite reaction because it seemed like he'd just experienced something genuinely magical, and it disturbed him. For some reason i expect the Mentalists among us to have the better stories, but maybe i'll be proved wrong.

I was shreiked that I was the Daugher of Satan, or something along those lines and he quickly left the building. I can't remember what the trick was now but I know it wasn't anything particularly dark.

I'm not sure that he hadn't been taking some naughty substances beforehand though.

I've gotten great reactions from everyone I perform but there isn't a paticular one that stands out at the moment.

My personal favorite is from a magician. I performed "Sensory Projection" on him. No one else was impressed as they assumed he was a stooge. But he was incrediblly impressed and I ruined his weekend doing that.

:D

I was on a night out with some friends and started doing magic in the outside area where there were tables, seating and patio heaters. After a few minutes there was a gathering of about 5 other people and eventually there must have been about 20 to 25 or so people huddled around in the smoking area just watching and shouting with rowdy enthusisasm. After several card effects one stranger happened to have taken his friend's mobile (unawares) and secretly passed it me. With some flash paper I produced it to the utter bafflement of his friend who must have thought I was a talented pick pocket. That was a great reaction. However, what followed next completely shocked me, as one of the guys handed me £20. I declined, but they kept insisting. Then his girlfriend, confided in me: "Don't tell him I gave you this..." and handed me a tenner. I kept refusing as I felt a bit guilty taking people's money, but in the end I pocketed £36 and a handful of change. I was asked if I was available to do a magic gig at one of the group's wedding some 4 months ahead, but professed to just being a hobbyist, although did pass on my number. Part of my refusal was to do with a fear of not being ready, but i regret it now as it could have been my first (proper) paid gig. It did plant this notion of possibly obtaining the occasional paid gig, but it's a bit of a leap of faith to get to that stage, as it's one thing performing magic on a night out and another to be at an event (or so I reckon). I'll never forget that time, and for it to happen with my friends around as well chanting my nickname was, whilst an ego boost, rather fetching. Incidentally, if anyone has ever seen the film Hook by Stephen Spielberg, where there is an Oriental character called Rufio who initially challenged Peter Pan's authority and there is that scene where a horde of youths chant his name. Well, that's what it was like. Priceless.

Mine has been Blaineesque as you've called it. Just people running out the room screaming and poking their head back in the door like WHAT THE F**K! YOU'RE A FREAK! Amazing what a simple peek wallet can achieve

Two spring to mind, the first was many years ago in a local club where I performed a card trick for some locals and one of them, female, said, fu**ing h**l and dropped a full pint on the floor.

The other was last year, at my mates dads stag night in Skeggy. It was about 4am and I'd being performing for a couple of hours. A lad who I'd done a trick for earlier brought over his wife. I forced a card and got her to think of it and read her mind. She frieked, made him go home with her, and said I was wierd and could read her mind and she wasn't going to stay any where near me.

Mine was at a Manchester Meet, one in that this guy was so doubting over the chop cup that he waved his hand at the cup and said "anyone can do this, abracababra" and lifted the cup he saw nothing then a split second later the first big load dropped out (juggleing ball which had got a teeny bit stuck)

The initial confusion as he saw nothing then the utter shock of the big load had the big guy completely stunned while his mates roared in laughter. I did the 2nd load and put the cup down and he picked it up again wondering where the first one came from and obviously that load came out.
I think you had to be there to appreciate it, i was rolling on the floor, as was Crozboz and this guys mates. Drink duely followed

My best silent-stare reactions always seem to come from me making a coin/a bunch of coins disappear

I just love it when you've done something simple - card to drink, card to wallet etc. and before you show the face of the card people are like "No. No. No, no no no. It isn't. It isn't. No. It just isn't..." etc.

Of course, it is

Not a jaws-on-the-floor reaction by any means, but I recently did a metal bend for a colleague. When I handed the bent fork to him for examination he commented that it "wasn't even warm". No shock and awe, but his response showed that he'd really bought into what he'd just witnessed.

Strongest I've probably had was a version of Out Of This World where you deal cards into the specs open hands (left for black, right for red). Just about the only occasion where a friend has asked to see an effect a second time.

Oh, and for a time, the good lady husband had a habit of, on being asked to think of a card, naming the first card in my stack. One DL away from a miracle!

then the only thing left is the method.

I do James Brown's Vanishing Deck as a closer when wandering, and once had a girl lift up my shirt to try and find where the cards went.

Man I love that trick.
