Christmas Ideas

Postby Johnny Wizz » Dec 4th, '08, 20:53

Hi all

Awfully late to be asking this I know but I am looking for ideas for adding a Christmas touch to my routines.

I have worked out a coin to cracker routine and don't want to buy a lot of once a year stuff so its really ideas for adapting standard work I am looking for. Anyone seen any Xmas themed playing cards for instance?

All ideas will be gratefully received.

John

I remembered starting a thread some years ago that may be of interest to you.

Had a dig around and found it http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic4379.php&highlight=party+poppers

The search function can be a nightmare sometimes

Where should you always try first for cards?

They have few different ones, just search "Christmas".

It probably is a bit late to be thinking about brand new effects. I think you'd be better off coming up with spins on stuff you know already.

Dohhhhhhhhhh!

I feel pretty dim now. I swear I have scoured this site several times and missed these. They are just what I am looking for.

As for new stuff, you are right. I am just looking for ways to "Christmas" up my standard stuff.

Some sponge reindeer or santas would be useful....

There's an interesting looking Christmas Carol booktest on Magic Nevin that I've been looking at. You could try adapting a card trick to use Christmas cards instead of playing cards.

The routine's explanations are in Hauntiques.

Performing "thread from eye" with tinsel? Walking on broken baubles? Christmas cracker restoration? Flash production of an assistant in sexy santa attire? Magical ignition of christmas pudding?

All of these useless ideas and more...

I too needed something for the 25th. My in-laws have co-opted me into a little apres dinner entertainment.

I had thought about some Christmas-specific tricks, but realised that given my rather uncompromising audience (which includes small children "it's in your other hand, daddy") they'd only pester me until they'd examined the props, so I think something simple with the old thimble and perhaps some flash paper in a cracker.

If there's still time, here are some red and green items.

once upon a time. guy hollingworth reckons this is something he invented for Christmas. I'm quite tempted by this one to entertain the children.

I'm sure I've seen a Santa change bag somewhere. Alternatively, you could get some real Christ-mass branded stuff here ... http://www.gospelmagic.com/cgi-bin/gosp ... cp-app.cgi

Thanks for all the sugestions. I have a couple of decks of Christmas playing cards now and my coin to cracker trick (courtesy of an adaptation of a trick from Mark Wilson)

I would have liked some Xmas sponges but can't find any anywhere. I am going to go with what I have rather than spend a lot of money on a once a year product.

John Oakley produced a booklet some years ago with several childrens effects using a pack of christmas playing cards from the Early Learning Centre, it was called 'Uncle Charlie's Christmas Cards'

I don't know if the cards are still available from the ELC. PM me if you want more info, or want to contact John. He may still have some booklets available, maybe even the playing cards if they are out of circulation.

You could always hand out Quality Streets then pour water from an empty sweet wrapper.

What about crackers??? There are probabaly loads of things that you could do with them. A signed card to christmas cracker? Perhaps a banknight type effect using a cracker?

I almost bet money, Lady of Mystery, that you would give an idea from Mark Wilson's. Perhaps the Candy Bowl effect? Thank goodness I didn't!
