Hello from Korea

Postby gypsyfish » Dec 6th, '08, 10:47

Hi, everyone.

I've been doing magic off and on since Benjamin Franklin IV, the shoe seller/magician in my hometown, taught me the jumping rubber band trick some forty-five years ago.

As long as I have been practicing magic, I'm far from a professional (I do try to present myself professionally), though I have done a few small shows for friends or the office. I'm not sure that I'd want to be a working magician, but I enjoy entertaining people.

My two claims to fame - I partied with Doug Henning at the Morgantown Holiday Inn, in Morgantown, West Virginia, and I went to school and belonged to the SAM chapter with Michael Ammar. Maybe that's why I am intimidated about thinking about trying to earn money doing magic. I remember sitting in the Mountain Lair, the student union, while Mike manipulated cards like I'd never seen before.

I do mostly close up magic and have been trying to specialize in the three shell game and three card monte cons. Last Halloween, I did some magic for the school I teach at and realized that three hours of gambling magic would be hard to pull off, so I did some simple mentalism and discovered that it's fantastic. I'm trying to stuff as much as I can in my head and have already gotten some good insight from this board. And I look forward to getting more.

Thanks!

Welcome to TM, Gypsyfish! :)

Very cool that you got to meet those 2 gentlemen. I wouldn't waste much time worrying that you can't measure up to Michael Ammar, who really could??? :)
