Is Richard Osterlind's "Bank Night" effect used in his mind mysteries dvd a good stage effect? Or is it more for a parlour or close-up? Last question, can it be easily adapted to become a stage effect?

Thanks, I've heard good things about this effect. I have no idea what it is but I've heard it's a good opener and that's what I need.

Thanks,
Ian

Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I want to say that it works just fine on stage (providing I am thinking of the same effect) as well as parlour....I was looking into this myself some time ago but never got very far in my pursuits of it and info on it. I think I remember seeing-hearing-reading about it somewhere and if I remember correctly it was actually a stage effect primarily in its development...could be wrong!

It'll probabaly work well for any setting, I've used it for close up a few times. I've never really done any stage performances but I'd imagine that it'd make a really nice opener to a mentalism show.

I've used it as an opener for over a year, and it's worked beautifully on stage as well as in a parlour setting.

I messed about with the presentation to make it more appropriate for a comedy stage (and didn't use the lottery ticket ending), but the props and methods were the same.

Remember that (Osterlind himself mentions this in his DVDs) the size of the props have nothing to do with whether or not an effect will play well on the stage. As Osterlind says, your real props are about five or six foot tall.

As an aside, I saw Marc Oberon do a reasonably long routine with the Master Deck on a big stage at a gala night. In essence, he was just finding cards that the audience called out. And it was a normal poker-size deck (no jumbo cards to be seen). But he made it work the stage.

Ultimately, the audience is watching you and the people you interract with.

Pete

I've used it as my opener on stage for the last three years - and it goes down well. I have chopped and changed everything else I have done in that time - but this has remained.

Very strong.
