Old guy, new magician

Postby Cricri » Dec 11th, '08, 12:55

Hey forumers,

My name's Christophe. I have never done any magic except the odd trick for kids. I really have no experience at all of sleigths, ditching and a lot of other stuff I am reading about.

I love this stuff though and my early new year resolution is to have a small number of tricks which can be performed anywhere. The lack of experience and a desire to try one or two out over Christmas means I need to single out a few tricks - visual or mentalism - that really deliver effect for little "handling".

Of course, it's all a matter of taste, and yo will all have your favourites, but I have to start somewhere, so could I please ask you - remembering my constraints - to give me a few must-haves in my currently non-existent collection of impressive do-iy-anywhere collection?

I am not averse to buying stuff, whenever I can afford it, but if you have some suggestions for me, would you please let me know what book, prop, download, online provider I can check for that trick? Preference is for UK of French providers, for delivery (anywhere for downloads of course).

So please, make an old guy very happy and give me your best suggestions.

Bonjour et Bienvenue à TM! Best initial suggestion is for you to check the Reviews Areas and see what's been discussed recently, there are loads of ideas for those starting out in Magic. Most of the popular items and ideas seem to be available worldwide so your local suppliers should be able to provide what you need  !

I was afraid you'd say that! Been reading it all morning...it is quite difficult for a complete novice to sift through teh reviews while picking up only the most suitable tricks, but you are right of course: there is a lot in that section. I am still reading, and would still apreciate some quick "you can't go wrong with that" suggestions.

By the way, if any of you give magic lessons (weekdays, central london for now), am also in the market for that...
