Fireworks

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » Dec 15th, '08, 04:38

Anyone who knows a thing or two about fireworks, I need help.

What kind of firework or firecracker makes a single "loud" bang, but doesn't launch or have report whatsoever. Any ideas? If you know anything please respond.

Thanks,
Ian

Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Bangers? As the name suggests, individual "Bangers" make one loud bang. That's it. I always illegally buy mine when I'm in France. How rebellious.

I used to make my own, but telling you how to do that would be silly and irresponsible.

If I were silly and irresponsible however, I would tell you about getting a packet of those little bangers - the ones like little balls of paper. Not the ones you ignite mind you, the ones that you just have to drop on the ground. You know the type I mean - they look like little rolled up paper sperms and give off a little crack.
Then I would go on to mention about how you can unwrap a full packet of these little bangers and empty the contents of each one onto some cling film. Then you could create an extra large banger about the size of a golf ball by wrapping up the cling film up really nice and tight.
Hey presto, a nice banger that does not launch nor ignite in any way - just drop it on the ground to set it off.
Mind you, I'd recommend placing this cling-filmed bomb into a plastic bag before you let it off, since the contents do tend to spray out at quite a speed - like really violent sand.

But of course I wouldn't mention any of this, because I am neither silly nor irresponsible.

Ps wear goggles.

my brothers always used to buy these massive great bangers when we went to france. They looked like the sticks of dynamite off of the cartoons.

Unforunately most of my pyro experience lies in cat 3 and cat 4 fireworks for public displays. However if you contact a pyrotechnics company they'll be able to help you out.

We use Essex Pyrotechnics for public displays but they are very helpful and have a bit of stage expereience.

Otherwise look for a stage pyro company.

Stage and theatrical supplies firms should be able to provide electrically fired explosives - LeMaitre is one of the best known brands to Google for.

I like the cling wrap bomb. I will check the link and call my local firework company.

Thanks,
Ian Baker

Ian, I suspect that anything you can buy legally in a western country such as the US will be no fun at all...

thing to remember with a lot of stage pyro's is that they are set of from canons or bomb tanks. Some must have major venue sized clearance.

The shrink wrap bomb is technically illegal and if anything goes wrong with it you are going to have hell on your hands. By going through stage pyro specialists you will get what is both safe and coverable by insurance.

Alright, I'll contact someone who knows what they're doing before I do anything.

Thanks!
