Another bit of obvious from me! Does anyone use spreadcounts and a memorised deck for card selection? I'm quite keen on getting different methods for the same actions, and have recently been getting into culling as a force. The force is of the "touch a card" variety.
It occurs to me that, with the right patter ("look at the cards as they go by; touch a card that you feel some connection with") enough attention is paid to the hands and cards that a simple 3,3,2,2 spreadcount ought to allow you to ascertain with ease the chosen card.
I imagine the following as the first two phases in a three phase card location:
uncase the deck, faro it to stack order but with a card ready (presumably the 52nd stack card) in cull force position.
Force this card, then control it to the bottom, restoring proper stack order.
Divine the card using your supernatural powers.
Repeat, this time using the spreadcount. The spec will no doubt be on guard for any chicanery and burn your hands, but by employing the stack and spreadcount, you don't need any sleight of hand.
Divine the card using your supernatural powers.
If you want to go further, you could start with the deck two faros out, and the force card one faro away from whichever position you favour for the cull force. You then faro at the start and between the first and second phases. StackView is your friend.
Sorry if this is too much exposure. File accordingly.
