Not So Classic Films!

Ok. So we all love classic films. But then there's those films that, when they come on, we pretend we hate but actually secretly love. I'll get the ball rolling with some of my geekiest favourites!:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles One + Two (Live action - and having just discovered there's a 3rd, am tempted. But none of this CGI rubbish!)
Six-String Samurai (If you have never seen this, watch it NOW!)
Hackers (Includes a cameo from Penn)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (So terrible it's brilliant, but caused Sean Connery to give up acting for good!)
War Games (Not actually that bad)
Super Mario Bros. (Awful, but strangely compelling)
The Phantom (Again, not bad, but cheesy)
The Rocketeer

Youre not including either Final Fantasy film, any of three Resident Evil films, DOA: Dead Or Alive or Beowulf in that list??

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Any film where people frantically bash keyboards, and yet, when they cut to the screen, a mouse moves all too smoothly, windows open, and letters make noises as they appear and spell out words, is inherently insulting your intelligence.

I loved the 'artist's impression of the internet' featured in the first of Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible movies.

At the time it was made, there was absolutely no excuse!

There's also a wonderful line in Jack Arnold's 1955 classic, Tarantula.

John Agar is talking to a professor in his lab. He spies a jar of colourless liquid on one of the shelves and proclaims:

"Is that an isotope???"

Beautiful stuff!

But in terms of poo movies I'll happily sit through from beginning to end if they're on TV, but would be to embarrassed even to buy them online:

Crossroads
Starcrash
Any of the Rambo sequels (I still maintain that First Blood is a fabulous movie)
Weekend at Bernie's
The Black Hole
Either of Peter Cushing's Doctor Who movies
Any of the Tim Burton-era Batman movies
Frankenstein Unbound

The Wicker Man remake with Nicolas Cage. There are so many hilarious moments in this film, I don't know where to start. Everything about this film had me in a fit of mirth; the "acting", the dialogue, everything. This film is so bad, it's good. But for all the wrong reasons.

Pitch Black and Friday The 13th go in this lot too...
(Not to mention Starship Troopers!)

I hope you're referring to the Britney Spear's bag of excrement Crossroads sir, and not the guitarist's dream that is Walter Hill's Crossroads starring the Karate Kid himself, Ralph Macchio.
The guitar duel at the end of that film is gold. Solid gold.

You'll be disappointed to hear that I am referring to Steve Vai vs The Karate Kid. I like to pretend that Britney never happened.

And how can anyone call Pitch Black a bad film? It's a masterpiece of monster fun!!!

I didn't call it a bad film
I called it a Not So Classic Film - although it is my favourite modern B Movie Horror!

Dog Soldiers. Best comedy film ever. Really it's a horror, but it's too funny. The bit where the dog becomes suddenly interested in one still alive solder's intestines - class. The transformation into a werewolf? Impossibly bad, but darn funny.

Watching: Jeeves and Wooster
