You can find a whole section devoted to them in 'The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks' by jean Hugard.Do as i do is said to be the most effective self working trick there is so I'm asuuming you performance mustn't be up to scratch?

And of course, there is an excellent version in the Royal Road to Card Magic (Hugard and Braue).

What a ridiculous assumption. There are many different variations of Do as I do, some a lot harder than others. I assume your knowledge of Card Magic isn't up to scratch?

Indeed Lenoir. The value of self workers has been discussed many times. Good self workers are about the most valuable tricks you can have in your repertoire. The encyclopedia of card tricks does have plenty varying in skill necessary. As to Werr's other point of whether or not the trick is impressive that will be down to your own take and presentation of the effect.

The best trick of this type that I have ever seen utilises a marked deck. You can find it in this book. The effect is so powerful, I use it only sparingly. In the spectator's eyes, the climax to this trick is nothing short of miraculous.

I bought the Wayne Dobson 'do as I do' card routine from Five of Hearts and it's a great routine that's very popular with a lay audience.

I think it was Bob Cassidy's idea - simply the classic "Do as I do", but with a deck tossed out from a stage. (as opposed to a tossed-out deck, which would be very different)

The greater distance involved makes the necessary moves even easier, and the concept of throwing the cards back and forth makes the effect that much larger.

But no, "Do as I Do" is a fantastic plot, and even the basic method can be very deceptive and tremendously powerful. If you don't find it working for you, it may simply not suit you, or you may not have put enough thought into how you are going to perform the effect - what power you are exhibiting, or what your performing persona is.

Granted, in the cold light of day it's not inherently deceptive, but then in truth very little is.

Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

Watch the film Magic, with Anthony Hopkins to see how powerful a Do as I do can be. And how to perform in character too.

You may even be able to find it on YouTube.

Agreed. I love the "do as I do" concept and this one holds a special place in my heart purely because of the reaction I got the first time I performed it.

This one entertained me a little, although I don't know anywhere you can get hold of it
