Wives and Girlfriends: How much do they know?

Postby Tapion1ives » Jan 7th, '09, 11:01

I got with my girlfriend the day I decided that I wanted to be a magician.
I was lying in my bed the other day with my girlfriend just idly listening to music and playing with cards when my girlfriend comes in an asks me to shift something/ do this/do that/etc.. an when i come back into the room she has taken up my spot on the bed happily flourishing with cards like charlier cuts and a basic sybil and a four way cut.
Turns out shes learnt through watching me how to do this.
She knows how to do the pass (albeit not very well) and can do some colour changes too.She has no interest in learning magic.

how much do our partners pick up from being around us when we practice.

or have i just messed up and been practicing whilst shes in the room lol.

Dave's got no interest in magic at all and doesn't pay any attention to me when I practice so never picks up anything from there.

He does know a little bit that he's managed to pick up from being made to sit down and be my guinea pig for anything that I'm working on and has got a very good eye for when something tricky has happened, although he doens't always know what.

My Rosemary's the same. No interest whatsoever and probably only watches me perform a trick under duress and with gritted teeth... She does, however, know me well enough to tell when I've 'done something' even if she doesn't know what..

Just curious... this sentence seems to suggest that you have two girlfriends (one for lying in bed with and one for nagging). If this is indeed the case, what's your secret?

I've gotta admit that I do use my missus as a guinea pig (oooh .... err !!) a few times, as she does know a few sleights, such as a DL, p**m, pass, card control, etc (even though she can't actually do any of them) - so when I show her a new trick and she doesn't catch me out - I know it's ready to show to the outside world  .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

That's totally the same as Dave, he's also very good at telling me if a routine is dragging on too long.

I tend not to run into this problem because I practice in private.

I also do not have a girlfriend :(

Expecting Jnr. number 2 in April and so I tend to run into the old "... if you've got time for that then you can fit in the nursery redecoration, rebuild the cot and paint the living room...." mmmm, Aquarius teat in bottle...

But yes, the wife has no interest, but knows more than she admits and loves to catch me out, a fantastic way of sharpening any routine.

Everything of nothing and nothing of everything  No seriously Kim(my other half) knows all the moves created through hours and hours of gruelling sleights performed for her, she couldn't do any of them but she does know probably a good majority, I'm just lucky she allows me to perfect in front of her through gritted teeth albeit but none the less she puts up with it.

Think i've said it on here before, i always run everything past Mrs Grimshaw. It's a really good way of doing it. If i can fool her, look out specs.

If i were you Tapion i'd be flattered, maybe your other half did what mine did, and behind my back looked up some sleights from my books and had a go herself. It was her trying to understand me more i suppose. Fat chance. Anyway, at least she's interested in my tricks Gawd bless her, rather than being irked that i pulled her away from something else she's doing. I show her a few self-workers sometimes to impress her friends and she does pretty well with them.

i thought it best to change what i wrote so i didnt get teased for lying in my bed with gf and only being interested in the cards.
clearly i didnt read it through properly

no she didnt look it up in books shes a bit of a freakishly good mimic. if shes seen something done a few times she can copy it.

its good for my sleight of hand really cos she watches where she thinks it is.

more you watch the less you see.

Like an octopus.

Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash, and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.
