Most Useless Magic Item Award

Postby bananafish » Feb 20th, '04, 16:01

The otherday I was shown a deck of 'marked' playing cards, whereby the back design was one of those optical 3D illusion patterns.

You know the ones that if you stare at it long enough and make your eyes go a bit droopy and focus about an inch in front of (or is it behind), then magically in 3D will appear the Card and Suit.

I may be missing something here, but imagine trying to cheat at poker with these? Talk about making it obvious!!!

So has anyone got a more useless Magic Item?

LOL, so, with me included, that's 3 cross-eyed suckers and counting.

The most useless effect/item I have had the displeasure of owning of late simply had to be a VERY dodgy 'silk from rope' effect.

The routine included states "And under minor misdirection, simply ******* *** the **** *** (etc) and the rope will stand erect/slup at your command. Then, under the misdirection of *******, simply **** * ***** the **** and the rope will visually become a lovely silk."

Unfortunately, the only misdirection which would cover this action would seem to be a bulldozer coming through the wall behind the spectator.

Still, at only £5, it was worth a punt. And it WAS a laugh, after all.

That really does sound like one of those tricks you need your lovely assistant to shout "Oi" really loudly just at the right moment.

Could actually be quite amusing. :)

I can get good deals on the hire of very distracting JCBs if it's of any interest. Unfortunately I can't get any similar deals on the hire of lovely (or otherwise) assistants. Dammit.

I'll hire mine out if you like (Not!).

Actually it was my lovely assistant that got me into magic in the first place. She told me she was charging £60 a trick, and I thought "hhhmmm, that sounds good..."

oh, the old ones are the best, but man, would I ever get into trouble if she ever found out I said it!!!! You guys can NEVER meet my lovely assistant now!

Oooh too late! Refer to http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=2057
where

The magician refers to the telepathic link between two people who have been ‘an item’ for a while. Anything over a week is long enough for this link to be established.

I wasn't joking!

Hey Magic, why is a breakaway wand no good and how does it differ from the collapsing one?

breakaway has a special piece that either gets lost or is hard to use.
calapsing wand is self contained and manualy operated no parts to loose.
