Postby moodini » Jan 12th, '09, 05:36

Just wanted to get everyone's opinion on my new magic website...it is about 95% complete and wouldn't mind getting everyones opinions on what is missing, what they like, what they would change, etc....hit me hard with the criticism where necassary!

www.magicoftrevormoore.com

(EDIT: prior to posts below, the link used to be from my other site trevormoore.ca rather than directly to the site...I think this may have caused people some comfusion....retry the actual website name above)

Looking forward to hearing what you all think!

I am no expert in this sort of thing and you should consult someone more qualified than me but my gut feeling is that it is a mistake to interwine the golfing with the magic. They should be two entirely different websites. The golfers should not know that you are a magician and the entertainment clients should not know you are in the golfing business.

As I say I am not an expert. You should get feedback from one of those magic marketing hot shots that abound in great number nowadays. You know the type. They make more money selling courses than they ever do performing shows.

I appreciate the thought Mark...I do have two entirely different sites (golf/magic) and market the two business as such. However, I have had many clients that have been booking me for both...golf lecture/clinic in the afternoon, followed by a round of golf in the afternoon (corporate tournament for example) and then I perform after supper or roaming during cocktail hour to round out the night. That is why I tied in a third site with my name that will link the two when the two arise.

So the trevormoore.ca is only the site that connects them both...for magic inquiries only I direct them to magicoftrevormoore.com and for golf specific inquiries I direct them to advantagegolf.ca

This just gives them a third search option - mainly for those that no me as one or the other - that will allow them to find my other information with ease online.

There was a ton of thought put into it...and the question was "how much to link them, and how to link them...because the business plan is to market them together in certain instances.

By the way...I followed your youtbue link and obsolutely loved the opportunity to see you perform....you are gold with kids; it is an art form all of its own and you are a picaso!

I am brilliant in many areas. Marketing is not one of them. I therefore submitted my theory with a certain amount of hesitation. Mind you I am not sure the experts in magic marketing know what they are talking about either. I smell a rat with half the stuff they come out with.

Again, I'm no expert (Jack of all trades, me) but it looks pretty good to me. Easy to navigate, colourful without being in-your-face and a nice, simple, legible font. Very important, that. And it's quick to load because there are no superfluous animations. It's not a revolutionary website by any stretch, but who needs that? Too many websites now are all style and no substance; irksome to navigate with bells and whistles coming out of every orifice.

So, yeah. Keep it simple and I should think it will help secure more bookings. Best of luck.

It's nice and simple, but not amateur. I really like it. I especially like the bottom right picture when you go to view the pics.

I like the website very nice and elegant the only thing I dislike is the main backgroung the black with lines, it hurt my eyes after a while of reading because I could see that in the corner of my eyes but that's just my oinion. Also I noticed a couple of things that didn't sound quite right in the faq section:

2. do you enjoy travelling
It say's, Yes, I alway's enjoying travellling
Should it not be: Yes I alway's enjoy travelling

and

6.What type of props do you use.

I do not perform grand illusion, and all the props that are used in my routines could be classes as "everyday items" and fit easily in a trunk

Should it not be: I do not perform grand illusions, and all the props that are used in my routines could be classed as "everyday items" and fit easily in a trunk.

This may be just me as I'm not to good with the written word but just in case it was mis-typed I thought I would let you know. Other than that I think the website is very nice, clean and elogant, I like it.

Thanks for the feedback guys/gals....I did have a few of you note spelling and grammar mistakes; it is amazing how many times you read it over and still miss things....so I suppose that is why you have others take a fresh look.

Thanks for the comments!

Neither is correct. You could say either:
a) Yes, I always enjoy travelling. (or)
b) Yes I always enjoy travelling.

In my opinion, a) is better.

You would not normally want to have a comma before 'and'. I would turn this into two sentences:

I do not perform grand illusions and all the props that are used in my routines could be classed as "everyday items". They fit easily in a trunk.

The sentence is indeed very long and would be better cut, but the natural place to cut is after "grand illusions", creating one sentence about the tricks and another about the props:
I do not perform grand illusions. All the props that are used in my routines could be classed as "everyday" items, and fit easily in a trunk.

Either way, you definitely DO need the comma. It's being used to balance two separate but equal ideas, and also to give the reader an indication of where one clause ends and the other begins.

There is no rule anywhere in English grammar or style that says it's bad to use a comma together with "and". The current trend is to omit commas wherever possible, but this usually reduces clarity. The golden rule is to make sure the reader can follow exactly what you mean without being pulled up short and having to re-read.
