I really,
really enjoyed it. Intelligent magic, interesting company and a delightful location. (Though it did take a while to find Middleton Hall. With ten minutes to go I was actually looking through the windscreen of our car at the large iron gates not of Middleton Hall, the hall, but of the nearby Middleton Hall, the quarry. Looking through them thinking, "Um... did the Victorians like to hold their magic evenings in quarries?" Fortunately, my S.O., sitting beside me, rescued me from indecision. "It
might be here," I said. She, quick as a flash, replied, "Don't be an idiot.")
Anyway, I'm afraid I can't post lots of photos as I didn't take lots of photos. I
wanted to, but I felt awkward about littering the performers' presentations with atmos-rippling flashes and the annoying electro-beeps my camera makes when it takes a picture. So, I've only this one to show, I'm afraid.

(Sorry for the tediousness of the link above - enter the code and wait for the REGULAR DOWNLOAD to become available (45 seconds) to get to the file - but the board won't let me upload the photo directly here.)
I very much hope there's another one of these evenings. (Perhaps non-magician promotion is the key. Yesterday afternoon, someone asked me what I was doing in the evening and I told them. "Really?" he replied. "Can you send me the details? I think my parents would enjoy that." He's never expressed any interest in magic at all, nor are his parents big fans as far as I know, but 'An Evening of Victorian Magic' in charming surroundings is innately unusual and attractive. Perhaps a flyer or three outside the Aikido class at Codsall leisure centre (which is where I was at the time) or whatever would attract lay locals; the boards are fine (though, an audience of mostly magicians can't be the most desirable thing for a performer), but we're all over the world. It's possibly better to target people in the area who aren't especially magic fans over those who would love to attend, but are in Godalming or Toronto.) If there is another, I'll definitely be there.
