Hello everyone.
Apologies for the belated introduction. I occasionally used to visit talkmagic in 2006 but I have unfortunately lost the way recently. I guess I am the prodigal son that you never knew was missing.
So, a little bit about my magic background:
I first properly got into magic at the age of 13 (ten years ago), when a magician I knew kindly took the time to mentor me once a week. I was quite enthusiastic and would try a small bit of everything simply to experience something new. This lasted a few years.
At the age of about 17 I realised that I preferred a cabaret setting with over 10 and under 50 people in a room, performing some mind magic, mini-illusions, comedy patter routines or escapology depending on my mood and the nature of the show.
When I started to run clubnights I began to perform escapology and a little magic in cabaret or burlesque nights, and had quite a fun little straightjacket and (simultaneous) sword swallowing routine. A few years ago I moved from the financially unstable world of clubnights to the (then) more financially stable world of financial business media, casting doubts on my sanity and making me the least interesting dinner party guest of all time.
Over the past few months I have been yearning to get back into the more fulfilling world of magic but have lost my performer’s support network. I have been spending silly amounts of money on magic recently and suddenly remembered “CUPS”, and this prompted me to revisit talkmagic.
I look forward to getting to know people on here properly over the next few months and rekindling my love of magic.
Any support/advice/encouragement/etc would be really appreciated.
Thanks!
Kerry
